Ocotober 7, 2015: India’s famous two-wheeler manufacturer ‘Honda’ presented its one of the latest innovations christened as “Honda PCX 125” at the Auto Expo 2014. The scooter is blessed with many technical improvements which make it stand among the rest in this niche. The scooter is powered by a 125cc, fuel injected engine, which offers a crisp throttle response and super-refined performance. Honda PCX 125 will stand competitively against upcoming Hero MotoCorp ZIR.

Indian buyers will soon be catered with a stylish and futuristic scooter christened as Honda PCX 125. The scooter will revamp Indian scooter market with its breathtaking muscular looks and a power packed performance. Targeted especially for the men, the machine is seen as the future of scootering, at least in India.

Honda PCX 125 is propelled by a 124.9cc, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine that is mated to an automatic V-matic transmission system. The mill churns out a peak power of 11.17bhp at 8,000rpm with a maximum torque of 11.56Nm at 6,000rpm. The engine is coupled with PGM-Fi (Programmed Fuel Injection System) that ensures a butter smooth performance.

The scooter is fitted with 90/90-14” and 100/90-14” tubeless tyres at the front and rear respectively, with 5-spoke cast aluminium alloy wheels. Its suspension system includes 31mm telescopic fork at the front and twin suspension aluminium swingarm towards the rear. Honda PCX 125 is fitted with 220mm hydraulic disc that is bitten down three piston calliper at the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear.

Coming to the body dynamics, Honda PCX 125 is a big sized scooter with suitable curves on its body panellings. The front profile of this machine is sportbike-like making it look the part. The headlamp section is aerodynamically designed incorporated with clear lens indicators and LED positioning lights. As one goes towards the end, the impressive body flow of the scooter can be easily noticed and it showcases itself more than just a scooter. A visor is fitted with the headlamp, which further enhances the visuals. A sporty step-up seat is also present giving a sporty look. The rear end section is also neatly designed with an oval shaped tail lamp and clear lens blinkers.

The handlebar of the scooter looks like a motorcycle handlebar making its front more muscular and appealing. Honda PCX 125 measures to 1,917mm x  738mm x 1,094mm (LxWxH) with a wheelbase of 1,305mm, giving it a handsome stance. The scooter has a minimum ground clearance of 135mm, fair for our roads conditions. It sports a fuel tank of 6.2 liter capacity, pretty good as well. The instrument cluster of this scooter is easy to read and informative that includes an analogue speedometer with digital twin tripmeters and fuel gauge. The scooter also features a pass-by switch to make easy and safe overtakings. It also comes with a decent underseat storage to accommodate helmet and other stuff like mobile phones, etc.

Design and features

Honda PCX 125 seems a futuristic vehicle with a trendy and fascinating body appearance. The front fascia of the vehicle has a bigger and sharp headlamp section embedded over the apron. Furthermore, the appearance gets even more agile with the incorporation of an aerodynamic black coloured visor crowned above it. The overall body profile of the scooter seems a hybrid of two, the front portion of a scooter and the rear end of a motorcycle. The vehicle features a wider and well-cushioned step up seat that offers an optimum comfort to the rider and pillion. Talking about the rear, it comes with a stylish body grab rail that looks fascinating. A sharp and pointed tail lamp along with the clear lens turn indicators delivers a premium look and enhances the visuals.

Honda PCX 125 has the following body dimensions: 1,917mm x 738mm x 1,094mm (LxWxH) that gives it a respectable public appearance. Furthermore, a wheelbase and minimum ground clearance of 1,305mm and 135mm respectively ensures superior handling and stability in all traffic conditions. It has been fitted with a 6.20 liter fuel tank that gives a decent range without any stoppage. Honda PCX 125 has a total kerb weight of 124.4kgs that makes it an easy to ride and convenient two-wheeler. The instrument cluster of the machine looks plain and comes stacked impressively over the front portion. The informative unit comprises an analogue speedometer, digital twin tripmeters and fuel gauge.

Engine and performance

Honda PCX 125 has been powered by a 124.9cc, 4-stroke 2-valve SOHC, liquid-cooled engine that comes mated to an automatic transmission system. It churns out a maximum power of 11.17bhp at 8,000rpm along with a peak torque of 11.56Nm at 6,000rpm. The super refined mill has a bore x stroke ratio of 52.4mm x 57.9mm that ensures a seamless all-round performance. With this, the scooter scores well on the grounds of power and fuel economy as well.

Braking and handling

Honda PCX 125 runs on 90/90-14M/C front and 100/90-14M/C rear tyres that comes mounted over robust alloy wheels. The scooter comes to a standstill with the help of a 220mm hydraulic disc brake at the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear. The vehicle avails a comfortable and stress free ride as it comes assisted with 31mm telescopic forks upfront and Twin suspension aluminium swingarm at the rear.
