Honda dream yuga
After its split from erstwhile partner, Hero MotoCorp, Honda had made its intentions clear that it wanted to become the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India. The Japanese two-wheeler giant was clocking impressive sales number and climbed to second spot in terms of overall sales. But it knew that only scooters will not be sufficient to realise its dream and for this purpose it rode in with the Honda Dream Yuga. It was present in the 110cc segment with the CB Twister but it was more of a premium commuter while the Dream Yuga was its main challenger for the Hero Splendor that had ruled the roost.
The styling of the Dream Yuga in typical Honda fashion is too conventional and it doesn’t have any flair to stand part in the commuter crowd. With its bikini fairing, sculpted fuel tank, flat seats and petite tail section, the focus is more on function than form. Instrument cluster is a basic analogue unit with speedometer and trip meter along with various tell-tale lights. Switch gear is bare and standard while quality of switches and overall build quality is decent. The main purpose of a commuter is to take the rider from point A to point B without any fuss and in comfort. The upright and relaxed riding posture makes the Honda motorcycle an able commuter. While the motorcycle has been gifted with lively handling dynamics which comes of help while one carves your way out of the dense traffic conditions one faces in metro cities.
Honda has plonked a 110cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder unit to power the Dream Yuga that pushes out 8.3PS of power and max torque rating of 8.6Nm. The performance of the bike is decent by commuter standards and the Honda engine is a refined soul. Power is transmitted via a 4-speed gearbox that performs faultlessly. Dampening is provided by telescopic front forks and twin hydraulic shock absorbers. Ride quality is on the stiffer side but it isn’t very much unpleasant. Braking is done by drum brakes at front and rear that do a good job of shedding speeds. The bike runs on 80/100 R18 tubeless tyres at front and rear. The Honda Dream Yuga has been successful in etching out a decent space in the commuter market and is a good option for consumers looking for a no-nonsense and reliable commuter. Fuel efficiency is on the lower side at around 60kmpl
