Honda Activa 5G Highlights
The Honda Activa remains at the top of its game and has been unbeaten for the last four months in terms of sales. It has stayed ahead of the Hero Splendor
range with a tally of 2,81,273 units in October 2019. On the other hand, the Hero Splendor has trailed behind at 2,64,137 units in the same month.
The Honda Activa 5G is available in two variants - STD and DLX. The former is priced at Rs 55,470 while the latter is priced at Rs 57,335 (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi). In terms of features, the Honda Activa 5G gets a semi-digital instrument cluster (only in the DLX variant), an all-LED headlamp, optional mobile charging socket and an 18-litre underseat storage.
The Honda Activa 5G is powered by a 109.19cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that churns out 7.96PS at 7500rpm and 9Nm at 5500rpm. Suspension duties are taken care of by trailing link suspension at the front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking hardware consists of 130mm drum brakes on both ends with CBS. The Honda Activa 5G competes with 110cc scooters such as the TVS Jupiter, TVS Wego Yamaha Fascino, and Hero Maestro Edge in its segment.

Expert Review
Honda scooters recently crossed the 40 million sales mark. It achieved this feat in just 18 years with the Honda Activa driving a major chunk of the sales. The Activa has been India’s best selling scooter in the 110cc segment for a while now and was recently launched in its 5G version with an all-LED headlamp,
and two new colour schemes - Dazzle yellow Metallic and Pearl Spartan red, in addition to the already existing eight colour options. The Activa 5G gets new chrome inserts, new front hook, new exhaust cover, and an all-new instrument cluster which now includes service-due indicator and ECO option. Other notable features include convenient front and rear hooks, a smart seat-opening switch, 18-litre underseat storage, and mobile charging socket under the seat. No alterations have been made to the engine and the Activa 5G still carries forward the same 109.19cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled, BSIV-compliant engine with Honda Eco Technology (HET), that churns a maximum power of 8.11PS @ 7500rpm and a peak torque of 9Nm @ 5500rpm. The Activa 5G is offered in two variants - STD and DLX. The STD variant features an analogue instrument console and is available at Rs 52,460, while the DLX variant comes with a digital-analogue instrument console and is Rs 1865 dearer than the base variant (all prices are ex-showroom Delhi). There are as many as 10 colour options to choose from - yellow, brown, grey, black, silver, white, red, blue, and the two newly launched ones. The latest Activa 5G competes against the TVS Jupiter which was recently launched in its Grande avatar. Other competitors include the TVS Wego, the Hero Maestro Edge, and the Yamaha Fascino.
Design and Features
At the front, the Activa features an LED headlamp along with the LED position lamp, which was first introduced in the Grazia. It also gets chrome accents on the front panel, which lends a classy touch and a fresh look to the scooter. It also gets a 3D emblem on the side panels. The rear features a conventional bulb-type tail lamp and turn signal indicators, along with silver painted grab rails. The top-spec model of the Activa 5G gets a digital-analogue instrument console that includes an analogue speedometer and digital readouts like odometer, tripmeter, fuel gauge, clock, service reminder and ECO indicator. The base-spec variant, on the other hand, comes with an all-analogue instrument console. Featuring an all-metal body, the Activa weighs 109kg which is 2kg more than the Honda Grazia which uses a plastic body.
The 4-in-1 ignition key slot now comes with a boot release switch to open the seat. Other features include Automatic Headlamp On (AHO), mobile charging socket, a front hook and a rear retractable hook. The underseat storage capacity of 18 litres is enough to fit in a half face helmet or other small items.
Braking and Handling
Suspension duties on the Activa 5G are handled by a bottom link front suspension and rear hydraulic shock absorber. It comes fitted with 10-inch pressed steel wheels which are wrapped in tubeless tyres.
Braking is via 130mm drum brakes on both ends aided by Honda’s Combined Braking System (CBS). Interestingly, there’s no option of a disc brake or alloy wheels in the latest Activa 5G.
Safety and Features
Talking about safety, there's no option of a disc brake in the Activa 5G, however, both its variants feature Honda's Combined Braking System (CBS) which makes braking safer for novice riders. CBS activates both the brakes simultaneously even when only the rear brake lever is pressed, thereby distributing the brake load.
The LED headlamp is another big plus as it has a widespread throw. Also, the Activa 5G comes with Automatic Headlamp On (AHO).
