Hero MotoCorp has updated its age-old 100cc engine that powers a majority of its commuter motorcycles. The tried-and-tested engine has been retuned to produce more power and better efficiency, with the company claiming that there is an improvement in the driveability too.

The increase in power is only marginal as the new engine produces 8.2bhp as opposed to 7.7bhp, though the jump in fuel efficiency is expected to be more significant. Currently, the new engine will be used only in the Passion Pro, Passion XPro and the new retro-styled Splendor Pro Classic.

The 100cc powertrain in question is essentially the same engine which was first used in the Hero Honda joint venture’s first motorcycle, the CD100. The basic design of the engine has remained the same over these years and it has proved to be a favourite among urban and rural customers alike. While the updates don’t seem that significant, it is expected to give the Delhi-based manufacturer a lot of scope in marketing.

Hero MotoCorp's sales in the last month crossed the six lakh mark, though this isn't the first time that the company has achieved this feat. The company recently launched two new 100cc motorcycles to lure the customers looking for a new motorcycle in the festive season. Besides these, the company also has plans to introduce as many as five models in the next few months, as it plans to upgrade its entire portfolio.
