COSTLY BIKE WITH MEDIOCRE PERFORMANCE
COSTLY BIKE WITH MEDIOCRE PERFORMANCE
I got this bike in September 2017 and have clocked over 6K km.
I have completed the fifth service last month and the performance of the bike hasn't changed much.
Pros: i3S technology is handy in the stop and goes traffic
has a muscular and chunky look
LED tail lights are awesome to look at
tubeless tires
Cons: 4-speed gearbox with very small gear ratios
the digital fuel meter is very inaccurate
severe vibrations and throttling issues
EXPERIENCE
I am a daily commuter and cover almost 52 km every day. Glamour has been in the Indian market for a long time and has been one of the best commuter bikes. That being said, the new Glamour launched under the new HERO MOTO CORP is a huge disappointment when compared to the old glamour.
I took special care of the bike and never went above 40km/hr till the first service and had covered almost 900 km. Things were fine even till the second service and the bike was very happy to go till 50km/hr. I am a built person and almost 6'2 and still, the bike was very comfortable for me. It was around the 1500km mark that the bike started giving troubles which were as follows:
1. severe vibrations, the mirrors became impossible to look at.
2. hoarse engine sounds
3. excessive heat liberation from the engine; I couldn't keep my leg on the shifters even after wearing shoes.
4. the mileage dropped to 30kmpl within the 5000km.
5. horn becomes inaudible at higher speeds due to the vibrations; maybe because of the positioning of the horns.
6. kicker got jammed within the first month. I was told by the service center that new bikes tend to have their kick jammed which I seriously think is wrong.
when I took it to the hero service center, I was told that the problem was with tuning. Even after that, there has been no improvement. The bike struggles to go above 50km/hr due to its small gears. Even though the torque figures are at par, it still lacks that fifth gear which becomes crystal clear when you hit the ring roads or the highways.
For this price range (ie, around 80000 thousand rupees, ON ROAD) there are better bikes such as the pulsar classic or the Apache RTR 160 which are proven as well as a hit in the Indian market.
Overall, I feel that Hero bikes clearly show the lack of Honda technology as the honda shine is being in the same 125cc segment is a hit in the Indian markets with sub-par features as compared to the glamour i3s.
Also, whatever bike you choose, always wear a helmet and riding gears and ride safe.
HAPPY RIDING!!
