Overview

Ducati India launched the 797+, priced at Rs 8.03 lakh (ex-showroom, India) same as the standard variant, in celebration of 25 years of the Monster series. The Monster 797+ will be the smallest and most accessible bike in the Ducati Monster family, which includes the Monster 821 and Monster 1200. The bike is powered by an 803cc L-twin that also does duty on the Ducati Scrambler. It makes 74.7PS and 68.9Nm of torque. The Monster 797+ will face competition from other entry-level sports bikes such as the Kawasaki Z650 and Benelli TNT 600i.

Design and Features

The Monster 797 follows the same design language as the Monster 821, but with subtle design changes like new 10-spoke alloys, red frame and a single exhaust canister. Additionally, for 2018, the 797+ features an aerodynamic flyscreen and a pillion seat cowl, both painted to match the colour of the fuel tank and the front fender. The seat height is lower than the Monster 821 and at 805mm, is more accessible for shorter riders. The bike weighs 193kg (dry) and has a 16.5-litre fuel tank. The bike misses out on traction control and rider modes but gets ABS. 

Braking and Handling

The Monster 797 comes with dual 320 mm semi-floating discs clamped to Brembo Monobloc M4.32 callipers at the front and a 245 mm clamped to a single piston calliper and Bosch ABS as standard. The 10-spoke wheels are shod with 120/70 ZR17 front and 180/55 ZR17 rear Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tyres.

Suspension parts include a 43mm Kayaba upside-down forks with a 125mm wheel travel up front and adjustable Sachs mono shock damper with a wheel travel of 150mm.

Safety and Features

The Ducati Monster 797 being an entry-level Monster misses out on traction control and riding modes, It gets ABS as standard, which is on par with the competition.
