Honda Dio Review
  • Overview

After Honda Activa, the company launched its new ranger named as Honda Dio that looked much sportier and young. Designed to cater the youths, it is bestowed with dual tone colors such as blue, red, green and black along with attractive graphics.

Honda Dio now houses the same 109.20cc engine that also empowers Activa and Aviator. The four-stroke, air-cooled, SI engine is coupled with Honda Eco Technology (HET) to ensure superior mileage. This handsome scooter delivers a peak power of 8bhp at 7000rpm giving a maximum torque of 8.77Nm at 5500rpm. The V-matic transmission helps this trendy machine hit a maximum speed of 83 km/hr. The new heart of the Dio promises a power packed ride with an unsacrificed mileage of 60 kmpl assisted with a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 liter.

Blessed with a three-dimensional “Dio” emblem on the side panels, the new Dio promises more fun and excitement with every ride. There is a slight change in the overall dimensions of the body coming to 1781 mm x 710mm x 1133 mm. The design elements of the newly born Dio are crafted magnificently giving it a bold, sharp and futuristic look.

The enticing headlight section fitted at the front panel distinguishes it from the rest of its competitors. The suspension duty is carried out by spring loaded hydraulic type shock absorbers at both ends. The front and rear brakes are incorporated with 130 mm drum combined with CBS, known as the Combi Braking System that give a high level of braking. The boot space comes with a decent 18 litres of storage area with an optional luggage box to help the shopaholics.

The new tail light section looks impressive with clear lens blinkers embedded in it. The tubeless tyres come as 90/100-10” at both the ends. With the all new Honda Dio, say goodbye to your worries as it is the most versatile package under this price.

  • Design

Till date, Honda Dio is one of the most stylish players in the Indian Scooter market. The front body profile is one of the most impressive visuals that comes to notice. It gets a beautifully crafted headlamp mounted at the front apron accompanied by stylish and sharp clear lens turning blinkers. The front cowl looks impressive as well bearing a Honda sticker. As we go towards the rear, the body dynamics seem proportionately edgy as the front.

Honda Dio now receives some impressive cosmetic changes in the form of dual tone colors and attractive graphics that gives it the appeal of a true show stopper. The rear end features a sharp tail lamp along with clear lens indicators that looks adorable. The instrument cluster comes with a speedometer and a white-dialled fuel gauge with indicators for high beam and turn. The scooter has a genuine under seat storage that can accommodate a full-size helmet. A front glove box is available as an optional accessory to provide that extra space for those extra goodies.

  • Engine & Performance

Honda Dio has a 109.2cc, air-cooled, four-stroke engine that churns out a peak power of 8bhp at 7,000rpm with a maximum torque of 8.77Nm at 5,500rpm. The scooter breathes through viscous air filter and comes to life with an easy electric starter. The engine incorporates Honda Eco Technology (HET) that delivers an improved fuel economy of 60kmpl as claimed by the company. The bore and stroke ratio of the motor is 50mm x 55.6mm with a compression ratio of 9.5:1. With this arrangement, the scooter sprints from 0 to 60kmph in 10.8 seconds and manages to hit a top speed of 83kmph.

  • Braking & Handling

Honda Dio is crafted on a high rigidity underbone type frame that gives enough strength to its mid-size body structure. It is fitted with 90/100-10 tubeless tyres at both ends. The suspension system includes spring loaded hydraulic forks at the front and rear that performs equally well on tarmac as well as rough surfaces. The stopping power is provided by 130mm drum brakes that are further blessed with Honda’s CBS (Combi Braking System). The benefit of Honda CBS is that it automatically applies both brakes while pressing the rear brake lever only.

  • Safety Features

Honda Dio comes with many safety features that make it come across as an all-round performer. It has a set of grippy 90/100-10 tyres that provide a stable and hassle free ride. Moreover, these are tubeless type which give enough time to the rider to reach his desired destination. Honda has equipped the scooter with an advanced braking system termed as Honda Combi Braking System (CBS). It proves to be beneficial as it applies both brakes while pressing the rear brake lever. For safe riding in the dark, Honda Dio has a powerful 12V-35/35W headlamp mounted at the front apron along with a tiny parking light that illuminates the road well.

  • Pros

    High on aesthetic values
    Great build quality
Improved mileage due to Honda Eco Technology (HET)

  • Cons

Lack of convenient features like mobile charging point and external fuel inlet
    Suspensions need an update
Not so stable under braking at high speeds

I admire this scooter for its long resistant performance and looks and it offers a great competition to other scooters also when it comes to mileage. It is a scooter which suits a girl or a guy pretty well and its not targeted to a certain gender but it looks good on almost everyone. I am getting mileage of 50 km on average which is quite satisfactory. The system system is good but front suspension is littl... Read Full Review

There are Non-Gears and there is Dio. Unlike others, it sports a distinctive design that is impossible to miss. The upgrade in 2011 Dio just made it look more beastly & sharp. So if you are a guy and need a moto scooter then Dio is ur best option. Most of my negative points are on some cosmetic changes that should/should not have been made. What I Love: 1). It looks really Good 2). 2011 model comes with bot... Read Full Review
