Yamaha Ray-ZR launched at Rs. 52,000

First unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo - the Yamaha Ray-ZR scooter has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 52,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The scooter is also available with a front disc brake option, which carries a price tag of Rs. 54,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Just within a week after the launch of the Saluto RX, Yamaha today launched its new scooter- the Cygnus Ray-ZR. The scooter has been priced at Rs. 52,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the drum brake variant, while the optional front disc brake costs Rs. 2,500 extra. Both the trims will be available at the dealerships across the country from May, 2016 onwards. The scooter was first unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo in February where it gathered lot of attention from youngsters, which are the target audience for the scooter.

Commenting on the launch of the new scooter, Mr. Roy Kurian, VP-Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, “Out of the total demand of two wheelers in India, the scooter segment is soaring with 30% contribution to the sales and we are looking at 10% market share for this year. With Yamaha’s forte to cater to youngsters with its DNA of style, sportiness and innovation, the new Cygnus Ray-ZR will surely be a treat for real boys, especially among the ones particularly keen on style and technology. Since 2012, Yamaha’s Scooters were enthusiastically accepted in the market. With the launch of the Fascino in 2015, Yamaha further witnessed a steep growth in sales, which only testifies its strong product focus and market strategy. We are excited to launch the new Cygnus Ray-ZR which is all set to rev many hearts among Indian customers.” 

Underneath the new dynamic exterior design, the Yamaha Ray-ZR is based on the same platform, which is shared by the other scooters of the company and so is the 113cc air-cooled engine. Using a carburettor type fuel system, the motor produces 7.2PS of maximum power at 7,500rpm and delivers torque up to 8.1Nm at 5,000rpm. Coupled with the Yamaha's 'Blue Core' technology, the scooter is claimed to deliver best-in-class fuel economy of 66kmpl. 

The new Yamaha Ray-ZR runs on 10-inch alloy wheels with 90/100 section tubeless tyres at both the front and rear end. In the standard trim, both the wheels have been equipped with a 130mm drum brake unit, while you get an option to opt for a 170mm disc brake at the front. The front of the scooter is suspended on telescopic forks, while the rear gets a spring loaded hydraulic damper. The scooter also gets the best-in-class under seat storage space of 21-litre and weighs just 103kg that is lesser than most of its competitors. 

Recently, Yamaha discontinued the Ray, which was its first scooter in the Indian market. With this new offering, Yamaha now has four scooter offerings - the Ray-Z, Alpha, Fascino and the new Ray-ZR.
