After being inconspicuous in the commuter motorcycle segment for a long time, Yamaha has finally re-entered the popular segment with the Saluto RX.

Talk about Yamaha, and the first thing that comes to your mind is performance. Right from their early days in India, Yamaha have dished out some of the most exhilarating performance machines, which include the RD and RX series of motorcycles. Of course, when 4-strokes and fuel economy came into the picture, Yamaha did lose their way with the likes of the YBX, Libero, Gladiator and the Crux series of bikes which simply failed to impress. Now, after laying low in the commuter segment for quite a while, Yamaha has launched the entry level 110cc Saluto RX.

The Saluto RX is powered by a newly developed 110 cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC engine based on Yamaha’s Blue Core concept. The Saluto RX puts out 7.5 PS @ 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 8.5 Nm @ 4,500 rpm. Now these might not be the best figures in its class, but they are on par with most of the competition. The Saluto RX gets a 4-speed gearbox while braking duty is handled by drum brakes on either end.

The highlight of the engine is the compact combustion chamber which helps in saving weight and keeping the engine as compact as possible. Talking about weight saving, Yamaha has also worked on weight reduction on the engine, frame and wheels to better fuel efficiency. In fact, at 98 kg, it is the lightest motorcycle in its class and is as much as 22 kg lighter than its predecessor. The Saluto RX is expected to return 82 kmpl as per the company’s claim.

The Yamaha Saluto RX will be offered in four colour options - Breezy Blue, Matt Black, Inspiring Red and Gleaming Black. The Saluto RX will be sold alongside the Saluto 125, which initiated the Saluto range of motorcycles.
