Yamaha has announced that it has registered a 66% growth in domestic sales in April 2016 over the corresponding period last year. The cumulative sales include units sold in Nepal, and Yamaha has attributed the growth to its increased focus in Tier II and Tier III cities, and to the support of models like the Fascino scooter and FZ motorcycle series.

The company sold 63,927 units in April 2016 against 38,568 units in April last year in the domestic market (including Nepal). Yamaha will continue its pan-India expansion and will be increasing the number of touch points to make the brand more accessible.

Roy Kurian, vice president – sales & marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd., said, “As the Q1 growth trajectory of 47% steadily headways into the current quarter with 66% growth in April 2016, Yamaha will continue its consolidated performance of steady sales growth along with more network expansion. Fascino is doing extremely well and with Cygnus Ray-ZR launched, Yamaha is looking to further augment its position in the scooter market by targeting 10% market share by end of 2016. Yamaha’s introduction of Saluto RX will sport more excitement as now it will cater to the requirements of basic commuter segment.”

While Yamaha has introduced more models to target fast-moving segments, at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Japanese automaker also launched the MT-09 performance naked bike to target the growing premium motorcycle space. The fully-imported, 847cc performance bike rivals the likes of the Triumph Street Triple and Kawasaki Z800.
