Both the new Suzuki GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 gets a new DOHC engine, providing best-in-class power to these lighter machines.

PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) today unveiled the much-awaited GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 in Jakarta. The bike will join the company's new family of entry-level sportbikes, including the newly introduced GSX-R125 and the GSX-R250. Like the KTM RC series, the new range of Suzuki's faired motorcycles also looks identical to each other but gets a different power mill. On the other hand, the new GSX-S150 is the naked version of the GSX-R150, which only misses the front body fairing from the package.

Taking design inspiration from the bigger GSX-R1000, the new Suzuki GSX-R150 is powered by a new 147cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine that also powers the GSX-S150. Mated to a 6-speed transmission, the fuel-injected motor makes 19.4PS at 10,500rpm and delivers a peak torque of 14Nm at 9,000rpm. If we compare it to its biggest rival, the Yamaha YZF-R15, the Suzuki GSX-R150 produces around 2.5PS more power but loses out on torque by 1Nm. However, the bike weighs just 126kg, which means it is exactly 10kg lighter as compared to the R15, making it potentially the most agile 150cc in production.

Apart from the sporty styling and a powerful engine, the new Suzuki GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 gets many other interesting features, such as LED headlights, fully digital instrument console and keyless ignition. Both the bikes are said to be ready for launch early next year and deliveries to customers in the Indonesian market is expected by February 2017.

We can expect the global debut of the GSX-R150 and the GSX-S150 at the EICMA show on November 5, 2016, in Milan, Italy. We can't say anything about their entry in the Indian market as Suzuki is already offering the cheaper Gixxer (naked version) and the Gixxer SF (faired version) here, and both are doing well in the market. So, we believe that the company will continue with the existing models for now, but we can't deny the arrival of advanced models in the coming years as well.
