With the launch of the YZF-R3, Yamaha has forayed into the quarter liter segment with a fantastic product on offer. While launching the motorcycle, the company set the target of selling 200 units in a month, but later realigned the target to 100 units. In a span of 8 months, the company has sold a little over 600 units, which is a decent number for a bike in this category. The Yamaha YZF-R3 competes against the KTM RC 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300, which are priced at Rs. 2.13 lakh and Rs. 3.65 respectively (ex-showroom, Delhi).

In August 2015, Yamaha introduced the YZF-R3 at Rs. 3.26 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in the presence of its brand ambassador John Abraham at BIC (Buddh International Circuit). The company expected it to take the market by storm. However, it proved slightly disappointing for the people who felt that the bike is bit overpriced and lacks desirable safety features like ABS as seen on the KTM RC 390 and  performance features like a Slipper clutch as seen on the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Earlier, Yamaha India dropped the idea of bringing the YZF-25 to the Indian shores and gave us the even better R3 instead.

Using the company’s blue core technology and R DNA, the Yamaha YZF-R3 caters to the young racing enthusiasts looking for their first beginner’s performance machine, which is also practical for daily use. Presently, the R3 comes to the Indian shores via CKD route from Indonesia and the automaker is not even planning to manufacture its parts locally in the near future. So, we cannot expect the price to be reduced. The bike is available in 2 colours namely - Racing Blue and Black Lightning.
