With some major upgrades, the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade will be significantly advanced, lighter and more powerful compared to the existing model.

Thanks to the fierce competition at the top, manufacturers are continuously upgrading their litre-class superbikes to stay ahead of the pack. Honda has been lagging behind its rivals in this segment for years now. Its offering, the CBR1000RR was last updated on its 20th anniversary in 2012, and after that, it was only finding favour with customers thanks to its impeccable road manners. However, that alone isn’t enough to cut the mustard, and Honda has recognised that it is high time to match up with the league which have moved ahead, especially on the track where it really matters.

The 2017 Honda CBR1000RR is now going to get some serious updates to take on its rivals. In fact, the Japanese manufacturer is planning to bring an all-new motorcycle with both cosmetic and mechanical upgrades.

A source told MCN, “The changes to the new bike are very significant and there has been a lot of work done to make the bike more competitive with rivals. The weight loss over the current bike will help the bike to turn much more easily and those who have tested it have said it makes for a much sharper bike.”

The new design of the bike will result in a significant weight reduction as well as better aerodynamics. It will also changes the styling of the motorcycle, giving a fresh new look to it. The new bike could be around 8kg lighter compared to its existing model, which will help it perform better with the enhanced performance.

We believe the 2017 Honda Fireblade will sport the same inline-four 1,000cc motor that powers the current generation CBR1000RR. However, the company will rework the engine to make it more efficient and agile. Unfortunately, as per the reports, it is still not going to match the output of 200PS class leaders like the 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, 2015 Yamaha YZF-R1 and the BMW S1000RR. The retuned motor will make about 5-10PS more than the existing version, which makes 178PS.

The new model will also get a new ram-air intake at the front, which will further help in boosting performance. It will also get a completely reworked exhaust system that will meet the stricter Euro-4 emission and noise standards. Also, the updated CBR1000RR will get many advanced features, including the semi-active Ohlins suspension set-up and steering damper. The new electronics package will include traction control, wheelie control, new riding modes, Bosch 9.1 MP Cornering ABS and much more. The bike will get all these features and better performance without compromising with its civilised road manners.
