Indian motorcycle - the company widely known for its mammoth cruiser motorcycles has added another member to its range christened Springfield. The bike has been built on a completely different chassis, but resembles the Chief in several ways. The Springfield is powered by the same Thunderstroke 111 Engine that does duty on rest of the Chiefs. Besides, the company offers easily removable windscreen and saddlebags that can be detached by just unclipping. This enables the easy transformation of a bagger to a high-speed cruiser.

Powering the bike is a 1,811cc, Thunderstroke 111, fuel-injected, air-cooled engine that has been coupled to a six-speed transmission. The mill pumps out an earth shattering torque of 161.6Nm at just 3,000rpm. For braking, the bike has been fitted with dual 300mm disc brakes with four-piston callipers up front while the rear gets a single 300mm disc brake with a two-piston calliper. Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) comes as standard.

Other features include Cruise control, keyless entry and tyre pressure monitoring system. The Springfield has also been integrated with several other comfort features that include remote locking hard bags, adjustable passenger floorboards, electronic cruise control and a powerful headlight with dual driving lights. The company offers a wide range of accessories with the bike to enhance the touring experience such as tall and low windshield, a 17-gallon accessory trunk, heated grips with heated driver and passenger seats to keep riders comfy in chilly weather conditions.

On the occasion, Steve Menneto, President of Motorcycles for Polaris Industries said, “The new Indian Springfield wasn’t designed to fill a space in our lineup; it was built to fill a space in the hearts of riders who value the rich heritage and fine craftsmanship of Indian Motorcycle, and who want both a pure touring bike and a sleek urban cruiser. The Springfield’s unmatched versatility will win the hearts of motorcycling purists around the world.”

The Indian Springfield has been priced at $20,999 (Rs. 14.09 lac) for Thunder Black paint scheme. The motorcycle has been introduced in International markets only and for the time being, we can only hope to see it in India in near future. If launched, the bike will take on Harley Davidson Road King and it would be interesting to see what the Indian buyers opt between the two. Stay tuned for more updates!
