Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has registered a growth of 27% for the month of April 2016 over April 2015. The figure includes both domestic sales and exports. In the domestic market, Honda sold 1,50,651 motorcycles in April 2016 vs 1,31,204 units in April 2015, equaling a growth of 19,447 units or 14.8%. With sales of 2,63,320 scooters in April this year, the Japanese automaker has sold 65,544 units more than it did in the corresponding period last year, i.e., a sales gain of over 33% in the Indian market.

Honda has seen gains in dispatches to markets overseas as well, selling 17,040 units last month compared to 11,699 units in April 2015 – a jump of nearly 46%. Cumulatively, the brand sold 4,31,011 units in April 2016 as opposed to 3,40,679 in the same period last year. Honda’s overall market share in the two-wheeler space has also seen a spike, going up 1% in the domestic market and 2% in the domestic + export markets.

Building on the success of the Activa, Honda introduced the NAVi scooter-bike at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The NAVi shares a lot of its components with the Activa, including the 110cc engine, but is being offered as a lifestyle purchase, primarily targeting younger buyers. Phase I of the NAVi's sales have begun with deliveries starting in six cities. Honda claims that it has sold over 5,000 units of the model since its introduction in February this year. Honda also showcased the Africa Twin at the Auto Expo and is expected to launch it in India soon.
