Celebrating Women’s Day in Style

On the occasion of International Women’s day, a female member of parliament from Bihar rode her Harley-Davidson to office. Ms. Ranjeet Ranjan, a 42-year old Congress member from Bihar’s town gathered a lot of attention when she entered the premises wearing a blue outfit and dark sunglasses with a white helmet. 

Ranjeet Ranjan is the wife of Bihar politician Rajesh Ranjan a.k.a. Pappu Yadav who also belongs to the Congress party from that state. Ranjeet is a mother of two and has also confirmed that she doesn’t even allow her husband to touch the motorcycle. She also mentioned that she had purchased the Harley Davidson from her own earnings. However, he does get to sit behind her as a pillion. Ranjeet Ranjan also mentioned that she can come to the parliament on a cycle or motorcycle daily. She was quoted saying, “My life has been such that my parents have never objected to whatever I have done so far.” 

Later in the day, she took part in a discussion on Women’s Day in Lok Sabha. The central government had said that they will be celebrating  Women’s Day by allowing female MPs to speak in the Parliament. Presently, there are 66 women MPs out of 543 members of Lok Sabha, the highest number ever so far.
