Leaked data and brochure confirms that the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 power cruiser will be christened Pulsar VS400

The upcoming Bajaj power cruiser has been renamed to Pulsar VS400. The bike was unveiled in a concept form at the 2016 Auto Expo and the CS moniker stood for “Cruiser Sport”. But according to leaked brochures the highest displacement Pulsar offering will be called the Pulsar VS400. Also power figure for the motorcycle has also been revealed through leaked ARAI documents. The Bajaj Pulsar VS400 will be powered by a 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that has been sourced from the KTM 390 Duke. The powerplant though has been detuned and the Pulsar VS400 produces 34.5PS which is almost a 10PS deficit with respect to the KTM mill. Though we expect the motor to have good low-end torque on offer to better suit its power cruiser characteristic.

The new motorcycle is an important bike for Bajaj Auto as it starts to kick-start a new segment of affordable power cruisers in India and the VS400 will be the highest displacement Bajaj motorcycle in its portfolio. The new VS400 will also get a Ducati Diavel inspired tank mounted digital display for speed and gear position while the handlebar mounted digital display gets tachometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and other details. It is also likely that the new Bajaj bike will be the first Bajaj motorcycle to get equipped with LED headlamp while the turn indicators and taillight unit is also LED. The production-spec Pulsar VS400 employs conventional telescopic forks for cost cutting instead of the USD forks as seen on the concept.

The Bajaj Pulsar VS400 will be offered in two variants – standard and ABS. We expect the Bajaj Pulsar VS400 to be priced between Rs 1.5 lakh and 1.7 lakh ex-showroom with an expected launch later this month. It will compete against the Mahindra Mojo and the Royal Enfield range of bikes with respect to pricing and purpose.
