The Benelli Imperiale 400 is a full-fledged package and feels like it punches well above its segment. It’s what you’d get if you took the Royal Enfield classic 350, ironed out all the imperfections and plonked a capable motor in there. The motor has minimal to no vibes, enough grunt throughout the rev range and feels stress-free even if you sit at 100kmph all day. Add a comfortable riding posture to the equation and you have a fantastic bike at hand. There are a couple of niggles, but that’s the case with almost every bike. What could work against this perfect little classic bike, though, is the after-sales service cost. While we don’t have actual receipts at hand, we do know that servicing a Benelli costs more than its competition (at least in theory). On the other hand, Dominar 250 is more affordable and value for money too. It even undercuts the Gixxer 250 BS6 by a few thousand rupees. In terms of pricing, Bajaj has nailed it. But money aside, as a motorcycle, the Dominar 250 does one thing right -- it is fit to purpose. The Dominar 400, for example, always felt like a confused motorcycle as the 390’s motor is too manic to make for a great sports tourer. It gets the job done, but just about. On the other hand, the Dominar 250’s motor felt boring on the KTM, but combined with the comfortable tourer the Dominar is, it works beautifully. It truly feels like it deserves the ‘sports tourer’ tag. So while Bajaj might pitch it as the entry-level Dominar, we think the 250 is the Dominar in its perfect form. You may compare both the bikes accordingly. Do take a test ride in order to get better clarity. Check out authorised dealership details.
