Bajaj Pulsar NS 125

In terms of design, the NS125 looks similar to the NS160 and NS200. However, it is offered in more universally appealing colours and the design overall is executed in a subtle way compared to its bigger siblings. 

The N125 features a engine that can be described as the smaller version of the Pulsar NS160’s. Overall the engine might seem small but it does pack quite the punch, especially in the midrange which comes at about 6000rpm. The strong mid range character of the engine makes it an ideal motorcycle for riding in the city as it makes quick overtakes quite easy.

The gearbox is also precise and easy to use. On the highways, though, the motorcycle struggles a bit. While it can maintain speeds of around 70-80kmph, you can feel the vibrations kick in from around the footpegs and the fuel tank, and you might even need to downshift if you're not in the power range.

Moving on to the ride and handling, the Bajaj Pulsar NS125 has some advantages because of its lower weight. It's easy to maneuver through traffic with its shorter wheelbase, sharp and light steering and skinny tyres. But on twisty roads, the same skinny tyres don’t offer enough grip so you will have to be cautious when pushing it hard in corners or riding in the hills. It's also comfortable for average-sized riders with a seat height of 805mm. And despite having an underbelly exhaust, it has good ground clearance.

Coming to the brakes. The NS125 has a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear with CBS (combined braking system). The brakes offer good bite and feel, but lack progression, so you need to be gentle when pulling on the brake lever to avoid locking up the wheels.

The suspension works well in smoothing out bumpy roads, and while the monoshock is a bit firm, it doesn't make the ride uncomfortable. The seat is well cushioned and riders can easily ride the bike for long distances without feeling any discomfort. 

Now, let's talk about the brakes. The NS125 has a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear with CBS (combined braking system). The brakes offer good bite and feel, but lack progression, so you need to be gentle when pulling on the brake lever to avoid locking up the wheels. Adding a single-channel ABS system would be a good idea, but it might raise the price.

Nonetheless, it still manages to match the braking distances of the KTM Duke 125, which comes with a more sophisticated braking setup and grippier tyres.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS 125 comes with a fully-digital instrument console similar to that found on the Pulsar N150 and N160. But sadly, it misses out on features such as turn-by-turn navigation which its larger siblings get, though it gets Bluetooth connectivity and Bajaj Ride Connect App, with related functionalities such as Call/SMS alerts, phone battery and signal levels.

The Pulsar NS125 is a decent bike, which offers good performance and handling along with the aggressive looks that we have come to associate with the Pulsar NS series. Now with the updates, the bike is more competitive than ever compared to its rivals. If you are looking for a beginner’s bike and will be switching to a bigger one later then the NS125 is an excellent choice and good starting point.
