Bajaj Pulsar 150 Highlights
Latest On: The Bajaj Pulsar 150 Neon has been updated with the inclusion of tank extensions. But apart from this, the bike remains unchanged mechanically.
The Bajaj Pulsar 150 has always been the go-to choice for newbie enthusiasts in India wanting to get into motorcycling. In order to appeal to the younger demographic, the entry-level Pulsar comes in new paint options: neon red, neon silver and neon yellow graphics with matte black paint. Despite its age, the popularity of the Pulsar 150 hasn't fazed and in fact it remains Bajaj’s highest selling motorcycle currently in India.
It is still powered by the same 149.5cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which produces 14PS at 8000rpm and 13.4Nm at 6000rpm. Braking hardware here consists of 240mm disc brake up front and and 130mm rear drum unit on the Pulsar 150 Neon. Bajaj also offers the Pulsar 150 in a twin-disc variant, which comes with a front 260mm disc and a rear 230mm disc. Single-channel ABS comes as standard across the three Bajaj Pulsar 150 variants. It goes up against the Honda CB Unicorn 150.

Expert Review
The Bajaj Pulsar 150 has been around for almost two decades now. It is one of the most successful offerings from the Pune-based bikemaker. For 2018, the Pulsar 150 receives updates in the mechanical as well as aesthetics departments. Over the previous model, the new Pulsar 150 gets fatter 37mm front forks, a longer wheelbase,
a wider rear tyre and a split-seat configuration. It also gets a rear disc option, split grab rails, new colours and refreshed graphics. Additionally, it also gets a halogen headlamp with AHO (Automatic Headlight On), an LED tail light and a semi-digital instrument cluster that comes with a clock and a tripmeter. The naked streetfighter houses the same 149cc, single-cylinder, DTS-i engine that produces 14PS of max power at 8000rpm and 13.4Nm of peak torque at 6000rpm, mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Bajaj claims that the new Pulsar 150 returns a fuel economy of 44.67 kmpl. It boasts a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres which is good enough for daily city commutes. The bike is said to be improved mechanically, with considerable optimisations done to its engine and chassis. The NVH levels have been improved too. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and 5-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, the bike comes equipped with a 260mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc brake. Offered in two variants, standard and dual disc, the Pulsar 150 2018 standard retails at a price of Rs 73,826 (ex-showroom Delhi). The dual-disc variant, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 78,216 (ex-showroom Delhi). There are a total of six colours to choose from- Black Pack, Chrome Black, Laser Black, Dyno Red, Nuclear Blue and Blue, exclusive for the twin-disc variant. The updated Pulsar 150 rivals the Honda CB Unicorn 150 and the Yamaha FZ in the Indian market.
Design and Features
The Bajaj Pulsar 150 carries over the tried and tested design of the earlier model, but with slight alterations. The new Pulsar 150 2018 looks a bit meaner, thanks to the revised bodywork, the inclusion of new dual-tone colour schemes and aggressive stance. Up front, it sports a halogen headlamp with AHO for enhanced vision irrespective of the weather or light conditions. Further, it comes with twin-pilot lamps, fatter telescopic forks and a tiny windscreen that adds to its aerodynamics. The graphics on the fuel tank, front fender and other body panels make the bike look sporty. Adding to its sportiness are components like split grab rails, LED tail lamp and split seats. It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster, with an analogue tachometer and digital displays for the speedometer, odometer and the tripmeter. It also gets a clock, a low-fuel indicator and a pass switch. The standard Pulsar, with a rear drum brake, is offered in five colours including Black Pack, Chrome Black, Laser Black, Dyno Red and Nuclear Blue. The twin-disc variant, however, is available only in an exclusive Blue colour for now.
Braking and Handling
The naked bike from Bajaj rides on fatter 37mm telescopic front forks and 5-way adjustable Nitrox shock absorbers at the rear. On the braking front, it gets a 240mm front disc and a 130mm rear drum as standard, while the high-spec variant is equipped with 260mm front and 230mm rear disc brakes for enhanced control and safety. The rear tyre is now wider than the one on the previous model, which further adds to stability on rough surfaces. The 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in 80/100-17 section front and 120/80-17 section rear tyres that are grippy enough on wet roads.
Safety and Features
Stopping power comes from the combination of a front disc and a rear drum brake on the standard Pulsar 150. And with the addition of a rear disc brake, the braking power has been taken a step further, certainly a welcome addition. It also comes with AHO.
