Pulsar 150 Expert Review

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 has been around for almost two decades now and yet has been one of the most iconic Bajaj bikes in the market.  The last update the bike received was in 2018, when the Pulsar 150 was equipped with a fatter 37mm fork, a longer wheelbase, a wider rear tyre along with a split-seat configuration. Other notable features on the new Pulsar 150 includes a halogen headlamp with AHO (Automatic Headlight On), an LED tail light and a semi-digital instrument cluster that comes with a clock and a tripmeter.

It boasts a fuel tank capacity of 15 litres which is good enough for daily city commutes. Suspension duties are handled by a telescopic fork and 5-way adjustable gas-charged shock absorbers.

The Pulsar 150's single disc variant has been priced at Rs 1,17,440, while the twin disc variant will cost you Rs 1,20,442 (ex-showroom Delhi). It's on sale in three colour schemes: Sparkle Black Red, Sapphire Black Blue and Sparkle Black Silver.

Design

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 carries over the tried and tested design of the earlier model, but with slight alterations. The bike looks mean and with dual-tone colour schemes, it looks quite aggressive. Up front, it sports a halogen headlamp. Further, it comes with twin-pilot lamps, a telescopic fork and a tiny windscreen that adds to its aerodynamics. The graphics on the fuel tank, front fender, split grab rails, LED tail lamp and the split-seat setup further accentuate the bike's sportiness. It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster, with an analogue tachometer and digital displays for the speedometer, odometer and the tripmeter. It also gets a clock, a low-fuel indicator and a pass switch. The Pulsar 150 is offered in three colours: Sparkle Black Red, Sapphire Black Blue and Sparkle Black Silver.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The Pulsar 150 continues to draw power from the 149.5cc, single-cylinde engine that makes 14PS at 8500rpm and 13.25Nm at 6500rpm. It comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Handling & Ride Quality

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 rides on a 37mm telescopic fork and 5-way adjustable gas-charged shock absorbers. Braking duties are handled by a 260mm front disc and a 130mm drum brake at the rear. If you opt for the twin disc variant though, it gets a 280mm front and 230mm rear disc. The 17-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in 80/100 front and 100/80 rear tyres on the standard and Neon variants. On the twin disc variant, meanwhile, you get a 90/90 (F) and 120/80 (R) tyre.

Comfort

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 comes in two variants. The single-disc variant gets the more comfortable single-piece seat with a wide single-piece grab rail, while the dual-disc variant gets a sporty split-seat setup and a sleek split grab rail.

The wide single-piece grab rail on the single-disc version may not look that good due to its dated design, but it is practical and makes it easier for the pillion to hold on to as compared to the split grab rails.

Both variants get clip-on handlebars but the ones in the twin disc variant are slightly angled downwards for a sportier riding position. That said, the overall riding posture on both variants is comfortable enough for everyday commutes.

Features

Stopping power comes from the combination of a front disc and a rear drum brake on the standard Pulsar 150. And with the addition of a rear disc brake in the twin disc variant, the braking power has definitely been taken a step further.

Should you buy Bajaj Pulsar 150

The Bajaj Pulsar 150 is a value-for-money motorcycle that’s refined and offers decent performance. It may not be as thrilling as the Pulsar NS160 but is good enough in its own right. If you are looking for a stylish bike with reasonable performance in the 150cc category, then the Pulsar 150 can be a great option for you.
