Rating

The Star City+ from TVS Motor Company was launched in 2014 and has been a top seller in the TVS 110cc category. This new motorcycle comes into the Star lineup from TVS and joins its predecessor the Star Sports, but gets an added premium look and feel.  TVS Motor Company’s original Star brand of commuter motorcycles launched somewhere around 2005 and ever since, the Star brand has always stood for a rugged and long lasting motorcycle. Over the years there have been a few upgrades and the latest promises to be even better than its predecessors. Let’s take a look at the new Star City+.

TVS has taken its time and made sure the Star City+ stands out from your regular commuter motorcycle.  The front has a massive masculine headlight and now comes with a semi-digital instrument console. It lacks a rev meter has a digital fuel gauge and a digital odometer. The console now also has a service indicator light and TVS’s ever popular eco and power indicator modes. This econometer glows green for economy when ridden logically, and red, when ridden hard. It’s a great tool to use to get higher fuel economy figures. The Star City+ also gets alloy wheels, bar end weights, alloy rear grab handle and also a pass by switch. Features apart, the paint job, good quality of plastics used and the overall design of the motorcycle definitely lend it a premium look and feel.

The one major aspect setting the StarCity+ apart from its competitors is the seat. The seat is not only wide but is also the softest we’ve sat on. Pair that with the upright commuter style riding position, the soft suspension and you’ve got a great motorcycle for traveling in our bumpy potholed city.

The engine is the same 109.7cc single cylinder air cooled unit you used to get on the Star City. It makes 8.3PS of max power and a torque of 8.7Nm. The engine has a decent amount of grunt in the low and mid range and sounds refined. It has a light and progressive clutch and a smooth throttle response. This makes it a breeze to ride in the city.

As for the handling, the Star City+ has very light steering, good foot peg to seat to handlebar relation and is pretty lightweight so it becomes effortless to ride and that’s what makes it a great commuter for the city. The telescopic front suspension and rear shock absorbers do a good job of handling any undulations and holes in the road. Plus the rear shock absorbers can be adjusted depending on how soft or stiff a ride quality you want.

The tyres on the Star City+ have a more rugged tread pattern for use on both smooth roads and those occasional mud and gravel patches. Braking is handled by a 130mm drum in front, and 110mm drum at the rear. Although we wish it would have an option for a disc brake in the front, sadly there is none.

Overall the TVS Star City+ is one of the better commuter motorcycles out there in the market. With a fuel economy of 68.22kmpl and a price tag of Rs. 46,800(ex-showroom Mumbai) there are only a few other commuters out there that can compete with it.
