Harley Davidson Ready to Establish in Asian Market

The legendary International bike manufacturing company Harley Davidson Inc, manufacturing the powerful bikes like Harley Davidson Sportster, Harley Davidson FLSTF FAT BOY has established its headquarter for Asia region in Singapore. The company speculates that there is vast market potential for Harley Davidson Bikes in the Asian countries like China, India and other developing countries in Asia.

 

 


 

 

According to Mr. Matt Levatich, President and Chief Operating Officer Harley Davidson Bikes, Each market runs on its own decided policies related to tariffs, taxes, various economic policies and non economic issues. According to Mr. Levatich this is going to be the decisive feature of their  policy to determine and to assess that what are the demands of people and what can be done to meet their demands.

The importance of Asia Pacific market was realized by the founders of Harley Davidson Bikes at the time of its inception in 1903 when the company started its manufacturing operations and started selling its bikes in market of Japan since 1912. At present also Harley Davidson is considered as an American Icon in Japanese market but it has not been so easy for Harley Davidson Bikes to establish them in Japanese market. In the early years 1900 the Japanese bike riders have to clear an exam for bike riding if they wish to ride the heavy bikes like Harley Davidson Bikes in which the riders have to cross a balancing beam at that time only 2% could clear that exam. In 2005, this law was revamped and made it more easier for riders to rider heavy bikes carrying passengers on highways. This played a major role for establishing the strong roots of Harley Davidson Bikes in Japan. But still Harley Davidson will have to clear the regulatory laws prevailing in Asian countries.

According to Bob Klein Spokesperson from Harley Davidson, company has already successfully addressed to various judicial regulations and is still working on regulatory matters in other countries also. He also added that Harley Davidson has so far designed its bike for European market and now it will be for Asian market but without any compromise with quality and brand recognition is an important factor in every market.

The major reason of success for Harley Davidson Bikes in US has been promotion by riding clubs, known as Harley Davidson Owner Groups. According to Sali Li, Assistant Professor, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, China , this what Harley Davidson needs to do in Asian markets. He also added the Harley Davidson Bikes can perform well in Asia once they clear the regulatory requirements and develop the strong network of dealers.
