Japanese bike manufacturer Yamaha, has finally come back from the dead after a series of failures in the Indian two-wheeler segment. The journey on the road to recovery for Yamaha started back in 2008 when the company hit the right cord by launching the very first of FZ series in India. Yamaha FZ which became an instant hit among the youngsters and stirred up the whole 150 cc bike segment. Yamaha took this opportunity and soon launched the upgraded version of FZ, Yamaha FZ16 and a new chapter was added with the birth of an amazing bike with distinctive looks and performance. The FZ16 has defined both the styling and performance for mid-segment bikes. The FZ16 was launched to strengthen Yamaha's hold in the 150 cc segment and the bike with the help of its dynamic design, originality and demand accomplished the mission for which it was sent out. Yamaha FZ16 Designing

The main reason behind the good sale figures of FZ16 are its looks, designing and styling, though it's engine is not as much refined as of Honda Unicorn's. But, there is no doubt in labeling FZ16 as the real 'Definitely Male' bike, the famous tag line for the Bajaj Pulsar 150. Bajaj Pulsar definitely looks like a previous generation bike in front of FZ16, since Yamaha FZ series have been quite successful in making a dent to the Pulsar's successful regime in the 150cc segment. Thus it becomes very important for us to talk a little about major design and style specifications of this rugged and naked motorbike.

Yamaha FZ16 chassis has got a diamond-type, single down tube-tubular frame which firmly wraps up its engine. This elegant and sporty design has been developed for Yamaha by the Tokyo based firm GK Dynamics. GK Dynamics have been playing an important role in designing and styling of Yamaha bikes for quite some time and FZ16 shows us that why Yamaha trusts GK Dynamics. The bike has been blessed with a muscular and curvy fuel tank which is covered by the high quality plastic shrouds. Use of these plastic fiber shrouds have given an edgy character to the fuel tank and the bike looks quite neat and clean. Yamaha toiled days and nights for almost six months in the wind tunnel for getting maximum airflow onto the cylinder block and head in Yamaha FZ16. The result can be seen when air easily steers through the sharp curves of the front wheel mudguard towards the cylinder head for an improved air flow in the engine. The new FZ16 bike had got wider rear fender that protects it from the mud and dirt. Thus, it helps in minimizing the adverse effects of mud, water splashes and dirt on the tyres and provides maximum protection.

Yamaha FZ16 Engine And Performance

This behemoth from Yamaha runs on a 153cc motor which is an air cooled single cylinder engine with 58.0 X 57.9mm bore and stroke. The engine houses 2 valves head and it is fed by a 26mm Mikuni carburetor. This carburetor consists of Yamaha's revolutionary 3-position TPS(throttle position sensor) which operates with the ignition system for a brilliant performance beyond everyone's expectations. This engine with the help of 3 dimensional mapped control in the CDI works extremely well for producing enough power and torque to make it one of the fastest bikes in the segment. The engine is tuned for offering 14bhp of power at 7,500rpm and 13.6Nm of torque at 6,000rpm. Though the bike does not break any new records in the performance department, but the bike touches the mark of 60km/h in just 5.6 seconds and goes up to 112.34km/h.

Yamaha FZ16 Braking And Handling

The company is has been very careful about keeping up with a top notch braking mechanism. Hence Yamaha has fitted a massive disc brake which is a 267mm hydraulic disc, so the bike can be very easily halted on any instant even at great speeds and acute turns also. While on the rear FZ16 houses a 130mm drum brakes, which works in combination with the disc brakes perfectly.

Yamaha FZ16 Safety Features

A bike like FZ16 is not only dependent on the braking mechanism for giving safe ride experience. Suspension mechanism is the thing which decides that how sound is bike in terms of safety. The Yamaha FZ16 is blessed with a 41mm telescopic forks at front and a mono cross suspension at rear. The mono cross suspension can be adjusted in several modes as per the road conditions and this is why Yamaha FZ16 is not only designed extremely well in the looks department, but also for delivering a smooth ride experience without any jolts on the worst bumpy Indian tracks.

Yamaha FZ16 Colors

The Yamaha FZ 16 comes in three stunning shades- flaming orange, magnetic black and lava red. The body colour is painted at front fender, fuel tank and compact air scoops. Apart from this, side panels and mid-ship muffler, disc brake are in silver colour wrapping. Rest of the body is in black along with alloy wheels. The rear view mirrors are in black colour and rear grab rail are in two-piece silver.
