Review of TVS Phoenix

TVS Phoenix OverView

India's fourth largest bike manufacturer TVS motors recently added Phoenix to its line up aiming to soar its presence above the rest of the competition. TVS has been working hard lately to make a dent in the 125cc segment. Its previous Flame 125cc variant didn't help the company scoring good on the sales chart. But the South Indian bike manufacturer has been working quite hard for some time for setting the sales chart on fire. And this time TVS has offered a bike, which seems quite serious for rejuvenating TVS strength in Indian market. The Phoenix offers some premium, first in class features and a lot of attention has been paid on delivering a motorcycle which provides better mileage, durability, comfort, ease-of-operation, and much more than the average style provided by some of the existing available bikes in the 125cc segment. The new TVS Phoenix 125 is an indisputable champion in grabbing attention that exhibits extreme level of detailing to the style.

TVS Phoenix Designing

 

TVS Phoenix 125 looks quite similar with Bajaj Discover 125 ST and it too looks quite good likewise the latter. With overall dimensional attributes of 1985mm x 1065mm x 740 mm this bike is much longer, wider and taller than many of its contenders. In this highly competitive segment TVS brings a bike, which follows a very conservative design theme with a basic commuter layout, yet the overall designing of the Phoenix is truly overwhelming. The perfectly positioned handlebars along with the soft and flat seat serve well as they both provide proper upright seating position and fatigue-free ride experience to the both driver and the pillion. The front facade seems like as if it has got a head lamp similar to that of TVS Star 110, but when on a closer look you will find that this astonishing head lamp gets the executive LED lamps from TVS Apache RTR 160. You will also find that the head lamp comes equipped with the All-Day LED Pilot Lamps which will have dawn to dusk visibility and will give TVS Phoenix 125 an executive and distinctive ambiance to the bike and the rider.
 
TVS Phoenix Appearance
 
The all new TVS Phoenix 125 has got a simple and sober design touch which pulsates the vibrancy of the bike when the simplicity of bike meets the striking graphics and color palette. An all black treatment has been given to the engine and alloy wheels. The dual tone graphics on its curvaceous body adds to the over all av-ant-garde design which not only gives a bold signature to the bike but also a tag of the very first PREMIUM CLASS BIKE in the 125cc segment. The designers at the TVS design studio have worked hard for the last three years on each and every department of styling for bringing a bike to which blends the modern with the timeless into a dynamic elegance. When you move on to the rear side of the bike, the Petal shaped tail lamp welcomes for showcasing an another sensuous highlight which is actually the one of the most exciting design features of the new TVS Phoenix 125.

TVS Phoenix Engine And Performance

 

TVS Phoenix 125 is armed with a revamped with the Ecothrust Engine, which is the heart of this bike. The Ecothrust Enigne is a four-stroke, single alloy cylinder and air-cooled short-stroke engine, with an over all bore and stroke measurements of 57mm x 48.8mm. The engine has got a displacement of 124.5cc and uses a CV carburettor and a paper type air-filter element which makes the engine capable of combining performance with power. The Ecothrust engine is tuned to churn out a maximum power of 11bhp at 8000 rpm and a peak torque amount of 10.8Nm at 6000 rpm and the DC-DIGITAL TCI ignition system marks its presence. The Phoenix comes with a four speed transmission gear box which and an all up shifting gear pattern feels quite comfortable due to the light weighted wet-multi plate clutch. The 4 speed constant mesh works perfectly fine with the engine for delivering a power packed performance.
 
TVS Phoenix Mileage:
 
TVS has always proved its mettle for being a fuel efficient bike manufacturer, and this time too the company claims that there latest entrant in the 125cc segment will offer an impressive fuel economy of 67 kmpl. But, the Phoenix 125 returns a respectable mileage of 56.8 kmpl on the city roads while this reduces to 54.4 kmpl while riding on an open highway.
 

TVS Phoenix Braking And Handling

 

 
The overall braking and handling experience of the motorcycle is the most alluring feature. Cutting through the air on this commuter bike is an astonishing feel on its well cushioned seat. The body structure of the new TVS Phoenix 125 uses a single down tube, tube less steel frame which is supported by a rectangular swing arm. On the front it uses a telescopic fork front suspension and a set multi plated springs which are rolled over one another and splitted by a separator, in the rear shock absorbers names as 'Series Spring'. Thus, both the shock absorbers on the front as well as on the rear end give a jolt free ride on bumpy tracks to both driver and pillion. 
 
The front and the rear tyre in the Phoenix are 125 is 2.75 x 17 and 90/90 x 17 wide dimensionally, respectively. Hence, the tyres play a very important role in delivering an impeccable riding experience to the rider with the ability of shorter turning radius. Handling is very good as both the handle bars and foot rests are placed properly for offering an upright position, light feel and neutral steering of the vehicle. But the main credit for a comfortable ride experience with the Phoenix 125 goes to its Compounded Padded seat which gives the real world class premium experience, superlative comfort and support. And secondly, the Air Cavity Foot Pegs are rigged with air-cushioned rubber for the purpose of giving an easy and relaxed ride while on the move. The front tyre offers fair gripping on all types of surfaces and even much better braking on wet and slippery roads with the optional petal-type 240mm disc brake for the front tyre. The standard variant comes with the internally expanding 130mm dia drum brakes on both the front and the rear tyre. Both of these variants ensure of safety by providing a huge stopping power.

TVS Phoenix Safety Features

TVS has left not an iota of complaints in the safety department too as it boasts of creating a bike which is not only a premium bike of its segment but more like a car. The Phoenix 125 brings some car-like premium features such as soft textured grips which offer a tight and firm grip on the Phoenix 125. The bike is loaded with a great stopping power which can easily bring the Phoenix 125 to a halt in just 17.33 meters from 60 kmph.

(The dealer is not even listed on your site how come they display board that they are authorised dealers?) At the time of first service on 02/05/2013, the dealer says that oil has to be changed and Rs.320/- will be charged to me.
