15th May, 2015: Mahindra launched its peppy, two-stroke Kine long ago to fulfill the requirements of our female community and short-heighted riders. Born with a sleek body design and wrapped in attractive graphics, the scooter gets its power from a 71.5cc, two-stroke mill that produces 3.75 of power and 5Nm of torque. Mahindra Kine is available at the dealerships in four impressive colour schemes: Racy Red, Pearl White, Groovy Lavender and Midnight Black. Probably the most lighter capacity vehicle in the country, Mahindra Kine is the sole offering in the country’s lightweight two-stroke scooter segment.

Mahindra kine Review

  • Overview

The lightweight and one of the oldest two-stroke, entry-level scooters of India, Mahindra Kine is also one of the most affordable petrol-run scooters available right now. It can be seen as the revised version of Kinetic Zing that used to roam around the streets earlier. The scooter is a boon to those with below average riding skills and those craving for a low cost trendy scooter.

Powering it is a 71.5cc, two-stroke, air-cooled mill that comes paired to an automatic transmission. With a peak power of 3.75bhp at 5,500rpm and a maximum torque of 5Nm at 4,500rpm, the scooter hits a top speed of 60kmph. Mahindra Kine comes with 3.00-10-4PR tyre at the front and 3.00-10-4PR tyre at the rear that have a good adhesion property. Its suspension duties are carried out by a bottom link front and swing arm with spring aided shock absorbers at the rear. Mahindra Kine comes to a halt with the help of 112.2mm drum brakes fitted at both ends.

The lightweight scooter is held together by a tubular frame. Its front profile comes with a rectangular shaped headlamp section that gives a brighter vision at nights. The apron receives clear lens indicators, twin air vents and a front number plate. The vehicle has a long, well-cushioned seat that offers a stress-free ride. A body coloured rear grab rail looks impressive that enhances the overall styling of the scooter. The rear end section comprises of an elegant tail lamp integrated with clear lens turning blinkers.

Mahindra Kine has body dimensions of 1,765mm x 635mm x 1,060mm (LxWxH) that give it a compact appearance. With a wheelbase of 1,225mm, the scooter steers well in both, city traffic and straight stretches. It has a minimum ground clearance of 120mm that bless it with a good on-road stability. With a decent mileage and a 4 liter fuel tank, it covers a respectable range without refuelling. The instrument console of Mahindra Kine comprises of an analogue speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge.

  • Design

Built on a tubular frame, Mahindra Kine has a sleek and smooth body design with some curvy elements here and there. The front fascia has a stylish multi-reflector headlamp with pointed clear lens turn blinkers embedded in the apron. The body profile of the scooter grows stronger while approaching its rear end. For convenience, the scooter has been given enough legroom at the front portion. A hook has been fitted below the seat to hold bags and goodies. The scooter has a well-padded seat that gives comfort to the rider and pillion.

The rear end has a curvy tail lamp section integrated with clear lens turn indicators. With body dimensions of 1,765mm x 635mm x 1,060mm (LxWxH), the scooter is probably the smallest scooter in market available right now. It has a wheelbase of 1,225mm with a minimum ground clearance of 120mm. Fitted with a 4 liter fuel tank, the vehicle gives a good range in terms of day to day use. The instrumentation comes in a single piece comprising a speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge.

  • Engine & Performance

The scooter gets a peppy 71.5cc, two-stroke, air-cooled engine that comes coupled with an Automatic transmission. Producing a peak power of 3.75bhp at 5,500rpm with a net torque of 5Nm at 4,500rpm, the mill starts-off with an easy electric start and kick start. With this motor, the scooter manages to touch a top speed mark of 60kmph and returns a decent fuel efficiency as well.

  • Braking & Handling

Mahindra Kine moves on 3.00-10-4PR front and 3.00-10-4PR rear tyres that offer a good grip. The suspension kit of the scooter comprises of bottom link shock absorbers at the front and swingarm with spring aided shock absorbers at the rear. The vehicle comes to a standstill with the help of 112.2mm drum fitted at both ends.

  • Safety Features

Mahindra Kine has a 12V-35/35W headlight at the front that ensures good visibility at nights. Furthermore, the two rear view mirrors notifies the rider about incoming traffic approaching from his back side. The grippy 3.00-10-4PR front and 3.00-10-4PR rear tyres provide a good ride quality by offering a superior hold of the road surface. All these features make Mahindra Kine an unbeatable player in the entry-level scooter market of the country.
