  • News Update

21st August, 2015: The popular 150cc motorcycle in India- Hero MotoCorp Xtreme got its last major update in April 2014. The bike recieved an all new design with some unique features like 'highbrow' LED DRLs. The most appriciated addition to te bike is its space age styled digital analog console. The 150cc, air-cooled engine now generates a maximum power of 14.2bhp along with a decent fuel efficiency. The bike features front disc brake as standard and rear disc brake as an option. The rear end also gets spiced up with the inclusion of a new and refreshing tail lamp. It is a perfect machine for those who want a comfortable, sporty ride with some extra performance for daily purpose.

  • Overview

At 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Hero MotoCorp unfolded many upcoming models that were to be launched soon. In all there were 15 products introduced by the company at the event wherein the redesigned model of its old 150cc motorcycle, Xtreme was also showcased. The company introduced it with a bunch of interesting features that makes it more appealing and likable. Xtreme was launched in 2008 and since has been doing reasonably well the Indian market. And as the industry is encountering a rapid advancement in the technology, the maker has improved the model according to the latest trend. It is quite intriguing to see that the manufacturer is working on the convenience and comfort of the people rather than modifying the bike and making it better in terms of looks only. There are two variants of the bike, one comes equipped with only front disc brake while the other comes with rear disc brakes too. To make the bike more durable and strong, the company has crafted it on a Tubular, Diamond Type frame.

The manufacturer has brought in one or two elements like phone charger and digital instrument cluster that makes it more helping and eye-pleasing for the rider. The manufacturer has kept the engine configuration of the machine almost the same as that develops 14.4PS of maximum power and 12.8Nm of peak torque. The design lacks the undercowl, integrated indicators and plain edges while the manufacturer has carried forward the ten-spoke alloy wheels, front and rear suspensions. The new things that will appeal the people are sporty headlights with Day running lights, LED tail light, wider rear tyre, dual finish sporty muffler, analog plus digital instrument cluster and under seat mobile charger. The manufacturer says: “The all new Hero Xtreme is ready. Are You”. However, the tag line of the machine is: Xtreme- Live Off The Edge. Let's get into the detailing of the motorcycle.

  • Design

Hero MotoCorp Xtreme is a commuter cum sporty, 150cc machine with which rider can not only commute but can also perform various stunts. With the overall dimensions like 2060mm x 765mm x 1145mm, the bike is extremely comfortable and easy to control for different type of riders. The ground clearance of the bike is 145mm, which is quite low which would make it often hit the speed breakers. The wheelbase of the bike is 1325mm long. The kerb weight of the machine without rear disc brake is 145kg and with the equipment of rear disc brake it increase by 1kg. The design of the bike is much better than before, the front fascia has become more attractive with the new visor and highbrow position lights. The instrumentation of the bike has become more informative and enticing with the analog tachometer, digital speedometer, trip meter, odometer, fuel level and few other vital informations about the machine.

New graphics and color scheme is applied over the machine that makes it look ravishing. The new colors that are available for the bike are Blue, Orange, Red, Silver and Black. The maker has also installed a dual finish sporty muffler along with wider rear tyre that not only looks very sporty but also enhances vehicle's grip. The manufacturer has given easy to access underseat storage where the rider can keep his phone for charging. The seat of the bike looks comfortable and soft & both the riders get personal seats to enjoy the ride on. The grab bars for the pillion rider is also there in chrome. Alloy wheels looks great on the new design and the front disc brake works fine with the front suspension. The rectangular swing arm with 5-step adjustable gas reservoir suspension gives better stability to the rider.

  • Engine & Performance

Hero MotoCorp has not changed the output of the engine as Xtreme was already a great performer. The engine of the machine is an Air cooled, 4 - stroke single cylinder OHC one that has the displacement of 149.2cc. Mated with the 5-speed constant mesh, the ride on the machine is heavenly smooth and pleasing. The engine is tuned to generate the ultimate power output of 14.4Ps at an acceleration rate of 8500rpm along with the ultimate torque value of 12.8Nm at 6500rpm. The machine is able to sprint from 0 to 60kmph in around 5 seconds. The bike will be able to achieve a top speed of around 110kmph. The maker has used CV with CCVI Carburetor Controlled with Variable Ignition as its fuel system. The ignition used to start the mill is an Advanced Microprocessor Ignition System. With a large fuel tank capacity of 12.1 liter, the Xtreme is able to return a mileage of around 60kmpl. The bike is designed for superior performance and maneuverability.

  • Braking & Handling

Hero MotoCorp Xtreme gets 80 / 100 x 18 – 47 P as its front and 110 / 90 x 18 - 61 P as its rear tyre. These tyres are wider and provides ample of grip to the rider while cornering or taking sharp turns. Also, the confidence of the rider gets increased even when he zooms on broken or sandy roads. Braking becomes more responsive with the 240mm disc brake at the front alloy wheel. Furthermore, the front disc brake with the Telescopic Hydraulic Type suspension works fine. The rear wide tyre with the disc brake gives rider control over the ride. The rear suspension of the machine stabilizes and reduces the weight of the pillion rider while enhancing the stability and control of the rider over the machine. The low height of the bike makes the rider feel more convenient and in total control over the bike thus helping him to ride it in his way. The overall handling of the machine is fine as the machine has sound braking and suspension system and besides, the seating position of rider aids the handling of the bike.

  • Safety Features

For the first, a motorcycle by the company is going to boast an engine immobilizer. This system protects the machine from getting stolen. If anyone tries another key to its lock, the alarm starts ringing. And it is impossible to steal this amazing motorcycle by Hero.

  • Pros

    • Fuel economic
