Harley Davidson DYNA
Harley Davidson brand is famous all across the globe for its design and looks, Harley Davidson Dyna bikes amplifies this character. The Dyna bikes are said to be the most comfortable and stylish bikes among the Harley Davidson long line-up. These bikes are available on the Indian continent in three different variants named Harley Davidson Street Bob, Harley Davidson Super Glide Custom and Harley Davidson Fat Bob.
These bikes carry the same traditional look like in the World War II but has some high tech advanced features and reduced weight. In the earlier days the bike used to be quite heavy because of the military items it used to carry on it during the wars but then later general people started removing the war items because of which the company was forced to launch the updated version of the Dyna bike in the year 2006 under the tag Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob. Seeing to the sales and popularity of this bike company launched two more models.
All these three bikes come equipped with a 1585cc, Air Cooled engine with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) system. The engine generates a torque of 124Nm at the rate of 3250rpm providing this bike a good acceleration. The engine comes mated with a 6 speed gearbox to enhance its performance.
Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob and Fat Bob has chopped rear fender that looks stylish and amazing. The bikes have mini Ape-Hanger handlebars that give hands-up riding position with the handlebars in steel finish. While the Super Glide custom has low handlebars with a different back then the other two models. The beauty of these bikes is further enriched by the medallion type fuel tank, new Michein Scorcher tyres, classic boober solo seat and long rear shocks. The bike comes in three colors- vivid black, black denim and charcoal Pearl.
Harley Davidson Dyna is available in three variants and all three have unique designing. Among the three bikes the Fat Bob is the longest one with a length of 2,400mm while the Street Bob and Super Glide have a length of 2,395mm and 2,345mm respectively. The seat height of the Super Glide is 710mm which is 20mm more that the Fat Bob and 30mm more than the Street Bob. In terms of wheelbase there is not much difference, it only increases by 5mm when we move in the line with Fat Bob having 1,620mm, Super Glide with 1,625mm and Street Bob having a wheelbase of 1,630mm. Finally in the dimensions what is left is the ground clearance; the Fat Bob is the highest with 125mm while the Street Bob and Super Glide are same with 120mm.
The front and rear tyres of the Street Bob and Super Glide are same with dimensions 100/90-19 57H for the front and 160/70-17 73V for the rear ones while the Fat Bob has in it totally new tyres with dimensions 130/90B16 67H for the front ones and 180/70B16 77H for the rear tyre. The wheels also follow the same trend as the Fat Bob has Machined, Aluminum Slotted disc while the other two have Laced Steel the only difference is that the Street Bob has Black colored wheels while the Super Glide Custom with standard silver ones. The rear tyre in all three models is fatter than the front one to provide better stability on the road.
There is a wide variety of Cruiser bikes available in the market but the Harley bikes are altogether different as they wonderful riding experience with different class of performance.
When it comes to the appearance of the bike the classic design makes irresistible to define. Starting with Street Bob and Super Glide the front view is sleek and aggressive. The headlamp case is quite small but classic and perfectly goes with the overall design of the bike. The handlebars in Stainless steel are mini Ape-hanger type in the Street Bob which provides hands-up riding position while in the Super Glide there are mini pull-back handlebars that provide laid back riding position. The Black finish in the Street Bob at selected locations makes it look much more appealing than the other one. Moving to the Fat Bob this bike has got a totally different look that the other two. There are twin small headlamps with a black finish and wide front tyre provides it a dynamic look. The Handlebar is a single aluminum rod which is quite low that makes the driver lean a bit forward for better handling. The fuel tank design of the Super Glide Custom and Fat Bob are almost same as they have a wide fuel tank while the one left has a simple compressed fuel tank design.
All the Harley Davidson Dyna models have the instrument panel on fuel tank instead of mounted on handlebars. This mounted console is comprised of electronic speedometer with odometer, time of day clock at odometer, dual trip meter, fuel gauge with low fuel indicator light with countdown feature, low oil pressure indicator light, engine diagnostics readout, LED indicator lights and six speed indicator light.
The Base variant or the Street Bob has the classic bobber solo seat but the other two have the classic one piece, two-up seat. The exhaust system in all the three models is dual shaped with twin mufflers on the same side. In the Fat Bob the two exhaust placement is exactly one below the other while in the other two variants the twin exhaust pipes are positioned in slask M pipe arrangement.
Engine And Performance
The Harley Davidson Dyna Street Bob is powered by the 1585cc, air-cooled, Twin Cam 96 V-twin with Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), which belts out a maximum torque of 124Nm @3,250rpm. The other two variants, Super Glide Custom and Fat Bob carry with them the 1690cc, air-cooled, twin Cam 103 V-twin which is capable of churning out a maximum torque of 132Nm at just 3,250rpm. All the three bikes are loaded with the same drivetrain and six speed Cruise drive transmission. The suspension system in the bikes is also good and reduces the effect of bumps and vibrations on the road to a large extent.
The mileage delivered by the first two models Street Bob and Super Glide Custom in-spite of different engine is same as 18.18kmpl while the mileage delivered by the Fat Bob having the same engine as that of the Super Glide is a bit lesser being 17.85kmpl. This might be due to the extra weight of the bike and the added technology to improve the performance.
Braking And Handling
Braking is not going to be a problem with a Dyna bike as they are fitted with the newest technology to provide effective braking mechanism. All the three models have the 4-pistom fixed front and 2-piston torque-free floating rear disc brakes assisted by the ABS technology. Fat bob has got dual discs, while other two has single disks at the front. For handling the Street Bob has the raised handlebars in the mini Ape-hanger type design which provides hands-up riding position while in the Super Glide Custom we have the mini pull back handles making the ride sit in the laid back position. The latest model Fat Bob has a single rod handlebar making the rider sit in the bit lean forward position.
Firstly in the safety features we have the wide tyres, which maintain a perfect grip on the road for effective braking, the Fat Bob has 100/90-19 57H tyre at the front and 160/70-17 73V tyre at the rear, which avoids skidding of the bike. Another safety feature added to it is the big size front and rear disk brakes with ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), which ensures you that that your bike is going to behave when you need it.
As far as body colours of the Harley Davidson Dyna are concerned, the choices are a lot. The Harley Davidson Dyna street bob comes in four attractive body colours. The body colour is there on front mud-guard, fuel tank and rear fender. Apart from this, the rest of the body has got blend of chrome finish and black treatment.
