After the launch of much awaited Yamaha YZF-R3 in a spectacular event at BIC (Buddh International Circuit), the Japanese automaker is soon looking to bring the naked version of R3. While we are busy in getting the grips of R3, Yamaha is readying its naked twin.

MT-03 is following the same formula of MT-25, but without fairing in place. It is glorified with shark nose for softer looking single headlight, a tiny speed screen, air inlets on both the sides of a fuel tank and a belly pan to shield the parallel-twins bottom half.

If someone replaces the stickers of MT-25 and MT-03 with each other, it would be really difficult for the one to differentiate the bikes. Both the motorcycles are not only similar in terms of appearance, but also on the spec sheet as well. Coming to the dimension, they both are identical and weighs around 165 kg with 14-litre fuel tank. In addition, both the motorcycles come with single disc brakes at both the ends.

But what you won’t be getting just by looking at both the bikes is their engine performance. The engine of MT-03 has more punch and similar to R3, it has a 320cc motor that develops the maximum power of 41.5 bhp and 30 Nm of torque. It is paired with a similar six-speed gearbox. MT-03 being a street bike has a higher set handlebar and better riding position to make it comfortable for rides around town.

This new member from Yamaha family is just around the corner and is expected to be seen at Auto Expo in February, with the launch following in March. Just like R3, MT-03 will also be made at Yamaha’s Indonesian facility and will be brought here via CKD route. We are not sure whether the Japanese giant will add ABS this time. It would be priced somewhere around the price of R3, but we can expect the maximum difference of 10,000, which would make the price of Yamaha MT-03 around Rs. 3.15 lac (ex-showroom Delhi).
