In Indian m market, scooter is the buzz word. Though new in the Indian market, scooters are seeing a boom, mocking any economical slowdowns. The kind of upsurge Indian two-wheeler manufacturers or other two-wheeler manufacturers have seen in the past 6 months on the basis of scooters is commendable. And the healthy growth in this segment has encouraged manufacturers to boost up sales. Healthy, we call it as per the statistics available. While the motorcycle segment has seen a minimal decline, 0.79%, the scooter segment has grown, a growth that can be called 'leaps and bounds growth', a growth of 21% in the initial 6 months of the current financial year.

Atul Gupta, Suzuki Motorcycle Private Limited Marketing Head, informs that to increase the company's monthly capacity to 40,000 by March 2013, the company will be adding 10,000 more scooters. This especially comes in a measure to avoid the demand supply imbalance that has faced for the past 2 years, with demand constantly rising up. And the majority of this increased demand comes from women, along with the uprise in Indian urban infrastructure. Both these reasons and the effect of these reasons on the scooter segment, a highly positive effect, encourages two-wheeler manufacturers to amble towards a higher productivity of scooters across the country, needing to take this segment rather seriously now, a segment which was left quite unattended to uptill now.

With this new-found encouragement, two wheeler manufacturers in the Indian automotive industry have already reached a mark of Rs. 500-600 crore in this fiscal year. This comes as a measure to help to the difference between the public demand and supply by the company. When compared with bikes, two wheeler manufacturers clearly say that at a time when scooters are showing an uprise, most of the motorbikes are always available off the shelf, scooters go in a 2-4 months of waiting. The current upsurge in scooter segment can be totally dedicated to Honda Activa, which was launched by the company quite a few years back, in 2001. The current market is being led by Honda Motors, while the competition, Bajaj Auto, is pretty much invisible from the scooter market, and still is planning to launch itself into its baby years as far as scooters are concerned.
