2016 Ducati

New documents sent for certification to the California Air Resources Board(CARB) have revealed that Italian manufacturer Ducati will introduce a new 937cc engine to its Hypermotard line. This new engine will replace the previous 821cc engine. The document has also revealed that this new engine will be used in three 2016 models: the Hypermotard 939, Hypermotard 939 SP and the touring-oriented Hyperstrada 939. The three new models will join the soon to be released 959 Panigale as a part of the nine new 2016 models. But the wait continues for the other five models Ducati plan to launch, including two which they say will enter brand new segments for the brand.

Ducati Hypermotard

The CARB document unfortunately does not provide a lot of details about the new Hypermotard 939. The old 821cc engine had an 88mm bore and 67.5mm stroke. If they overbore by 6mm, this would bring up the displacement to the 937cc of the new motor; the displacement bump could also be a combination of bore and stroke increases. The Hypermotard 939 will be the standard model, with the SP getting higher-spec suspension, special paint scheme and various carbon-fiber components. The Hyperstrada 939 will likely add a touring screen, more comfortable two-person seat, passenger grab handles, luggage and auxiliary power outlets.

Panigale 959

That’s all we know for now but we should get more information on the new Hypermotard 939 models and the 959 Panigale at EICMA in November this year.
