Indian Two Wheeler Market Sales Report: June 2015 vs 2014

In the month of June 2015, Indian two-wheeler market registered a sales growth of 6 percent, despite a negligible decline of 1,337 units in the domestic market. There is no change in the ranking of the top players, however, some have gained and others have loosed its market share. So let's checkout the report card of these auto majors in the Indian two-wheeler market.

Hero MotoCorp Ltd (HMCL): The world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer reported yet another month of robust five-lakh-plus sales performance in June 2015. Despite the sluggish market sentiment and the slowing rural economy, HMCL sold 5,42,362 units of two-wheelers in the month. The company registered a negligible increment of 0.14 percent against the 5,41,594 units sold in the corresponding month last year.

In the month of June, Hero MotoCorp introduced two new models in the market in quick succession – Passion Pro and Xtreme Sports. Going forward, the company has lined up a slew of launches across segments in scooters and motorcycles, leading up to the festive season.

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd (HMSI): Constant at the second position in the Indian 2wheeler industry, HMSI registered an overall growth of 8 percent. The company sold 3,48,793 units in June 2015 against 3,23,136 units in the corresponding month of 2014. In the scooter segment, it shown a phenomenal performance with a sales figure of 2,19,650 units, recording 27 percent growth. However, it has seen a sales decline of 21.47 percent with 112,132 units in June 2015 to 142,782 units last year 2014.

Bajaj Auto Ltd (BAL): After a long time, the homegrown manufacturer registered a significant positive growth of 10 percent in the month of June 2015. The company sold 2,87,582 motorcycles in June 2015 against the sales of 2,62,202 units in the corresponding month last year. More than half of this sales figure has been achieved from the export numbers, which stood at 1,56,074 units. It is highest ever export sales for any June and 16 percent more than the 1,35,074 units exported in June 2014.

TVS Motor Company Limited: Total two-wheeler sales of TVS grew by 7 percent increasing from 1,96,486 units recorded in June 2014 to 2,11,002 units in June 2015. Scooters sales of the company grew by 5 percent increasing from 58,328 units in June 2014 to 61,241 units in June 2015. Motorcycles sales grew by 16 percent increasing from 76,734 units in the month of June 2014 to 88,675 units in June 2015.

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd (YMSI): Overall sales of Yamaha stood at 66,140 units in June 2015, while 53,485 units were sold in June 2014, thereby registering a 24 percent overall growth. The company sold 51,432 units in June 2015 as against 40,666 units sold in June last year in the domestic market thereby registering a domestic sales growth of 26 percent. In the export markets, the company sold 14,708 units in June 2015 as compared to 12,819 units sold in the same month last year achieving a growth of 15 percent.

Royal Enfield (RE): Royal Enfield continues 2015 with a strong sales performance and posted  overall sales of 37,341 units in June 2015, recording a growth of 48 percent over same period last year.  The company sold 36,597 units in the domestic market with a growth of 49 percent and 744 units exported with a decline of 5 percent.

Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL): Suzuki Motorcycle registered a 32 percent increase in their June 2015 sales figures as compared to June 2014. Suzuki Motorcycle sold 32,628 units in June 2015 as opposed to 24,812 units in June 2014, recording a substantial growth in its overall sales. Suzuki Motorcycles has maintained a consistent growth path over the last couple of years.

Mahindra Two-Wheelers Limited (MTWL): After registering an impressive growth of 87 percent in June 2014, Mahindra Two Wheelers has registered a decline of 37.24 percent in the same month of this year. The company has sold 9,704 units in June 2015 against the 15,463 units sold in June 2014.
