Indian Two Wheeler Market Sales Report; February 2014

The Indian two wheeler market is the largest and one of the fastest growing two wheeler market across the world. The market continues its growth with a tremendous hike, registered around 10%. Some of the auto majors registered a great hike in their sales figures, while other registered a flat curve. For those, who lost numbers, there might be many reasons for this sudden break on the their smooth growth, and one of them could be the Auto Expo 2014.

As we all know that Auto Expo brings a fleet of new products with it in the market. Therefore, it can be possible reason that to wait for these products, buyers has delayed it. So, it might be a big reason for the flat sales in Feb'14 and we strongly believe that it gill take a good hike in coming months. lets take a look on the sales report of different majors and find out the top gainers and top looser of the market.

 

Hero MotoCorp Splendor Pro

 

1) Hero MotoCorp Limited (HMCL): The world's largest and leading Indian two wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, dispatched 504,181 units of two-wheelers in the month of February, 2014. The company had sold 5,01,271 units in the corresponding month last year.

Mr. Anil Dua, Sr. Vice President (Marketing & Sales), HMCL, said “We have been consistently selling over five lakh units every month, and this is clearly indicative of the inherent market demand that exists for our products. There has been an excise duty cut in the month of February and we have passed on the benefit to our customers. We are hopeful that this price cut will give a fillip to the industry and further boost demand of our products. The recent Auto Expo – where we showcased over a dozen new products and concepts – also seems to have strengthened the market sentiment. We plan to create further excitement in the market with as many as four models - the newer versions of Pleasure, Xtreme, Karizma and ZMR – ready to roll out later this month.”

2) Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India Limited (HMSI): The second largest two wheeler brand in India, Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India Limited registered a phenomenal YoY growth of 43.8 percent. The company sold 3,28,521 units in the month of February 2014, compared to the 2,28,444 units sold during the correspondent month in previous year. The overall sales of the Feb'14 includes 1,52,487 units of motorcycles and 1,76,034 units of scooters, which stood at 108533 units and 119911 units respectively in Feb'13.

3) Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL): Recording a negative growth in overall two wheeler sales consistently, Bajaj Auto, again registered a sales decline of 6.17% with 2,73,323 units sold during the month of February 2014, against the 2,91,297 units in corresponding month last year. However, the company plots 5% hike in export with 1,42,009 units during Feb'14, compared to the 1,35,149 units sold during the Feb'13.

4) TVS Motor Company: The Chennai based manufacturer, TVS Motor, records a two wheeler sales growth by 6% from 160,895 units recorded in February 2013 to 170,293 units in February 2014. Domestic two wheeler sales registered a growth of 3% increasing from 142,800 units in February 2013 to 147,580 units in February 2014. Scooters sales grew by 37% increasing from 30,611 units in February 2013 to 41,990 units in February 2014. Motorcycles sales grew by 3% increasing from 60,985 units in the month of February 2013 to 62,762 units in February 2014.

 

Yamaha Ray Z

 

5) Yamaha Motor India: The Japanese auto maker, Yamaha Motors, register 32.5% hike in sales at 42,548 units sold in February 2014, against the 32,097 units in the corresponding month last year. The major part of sales of the company comes from the 150cc segment, however, the scooter segment helped the company to increase the growth this time.

 

Mahindra Centuro

 

6) Mahindra Two Wheelers Ltd. (MTWL): The emerging Indian two wheeler manufacturer, Mahindra Two Wheelers, reported volume growth of 207% during February 2014 over the previous year, selling 18553 units during the month. Domestic volumes stood at 17848 units, a growth of 217% over the previous year. The Mahindra Centuro continues to grow its volumes thanks to its advanced, innovative features and very attractive price tag.

 

Commenting on this performance, Mr. Viren Popli, Executive Vice President, Mahindra Two Wheelers said, “The excellent sales performance during February demonstrates the increasing popularity of Mahindra Centuro motorcycle despite the challenging macro-economic environment. We have also won several prestigious awards that reflect growing consumer confidence in our technological innovations, a clear validation of the Centuro’s success. The newly introduced Centuro N1 with unique patented features such as remote flip key and anti theft, coupled with aspirational styling at an exciting value has helped boost demand.” The company has grown its sales and service network to over 1000 touch points across the country and are adding 2 new outlets every day in order to make the motorcycle more accessible to buyers.
