Comparison: Suzuki Gixxer, Yamaha FZ FI Version 2.0 and Honda CB Trigger

The two Japanese auto majors- Yamaha and Honda were the only brands who offered the 150cc streetfighter bikes in India- FZ and CB Trigger. Now, another player from the same country- Suzuki has entered in the competition. Recently a lot happened in the segment, while Yamaha launched the updated model of its best selling motorcycle- FZ FI Version 2.0, Suzuki revealed its new naked machine- Gixxer with the naked sport styling. While, Yamaha FZ FI V2.0 and Honda CB Trigger are available in the market, Suzuki is taking the bookings for the Gixxer and it will be launched on 9th September, 2014. Let's make a brief comparison of these offerings in the segment and try to find out a better option for you.

Appearance:

All theree bikes done a naked sport apperance, which provide an aggressive appearance to the machines.

Suzuki claims that the appearance of the Gixxer 150 is inspired by the legendary GSX series and you find it true when you look at the rear side of the bike. In front, it gets a sharp headlamp with minimised fairing to provide aggression. The masculine fuel tank gets some unique curves, which perfectly gels with the countered seat. Most attractive features of the bike are its 3-split-spoke alloys, wide tyres and sporty exhaust muffler.

Yamaha has totally tweaked the design of FZ series in the new FZ FI Version 2.0. The new bike is looking sportier and more masculine with new tank cowls, split pattern seat, exhaust muffler tail light and headlamp. The bike gets the same 5-spoke alloys with wide tyres, however the rear one ic covered with an all new tyre hugger.

Honda CB Trigger is a more practical bike with streetfighter looks. The bike gets all the style elements which provides a naked sport look to the machine and makes it appear aggressive. Most attractive style features of the bike are its headlamp, air-scoop styled tank cowls, LED tail lamp and square section exhaust muffler.

All the three bikes come with a fully digital console using a single LCD screen, which looks premium in the segment.

Chassis:

Dimensions of all the three bikes are almost similar, however they all have different engineering.

Suzuki Gixxer is bolted on a single down tube frame and supported by telescopic forks at the front, while mono suspension with aluminium swing-arm arrangement at the rear. Front wheel is covered by a 100/80 tubeless tyre and equipped with a disc brake system, while the rear gets 140/60 radial tubeless tyre with a drum type braking system.

Yamaha FZ FI Version 2.0 features the similar specifications including single down tube frame; front disc brake, telescopic forks and 100/80 tubeless tyre; rear drum brake, Monocross suspension with swing-arm arrangement and 140/60 radial tubeless tyre.

Honda CB Trigger has a little different engineering with 80/100 front and 110/80 rear tubeless tyres, optional rear 220mm disc brake (with DLX model) and optional Combined Braking System (with CBS model). Other features like frame, suspension and front braking system are similar to other two options.

Engine and Performance:

All the three bikes sport an 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, OHC, 2-valve engine of displacement around 150cc.

Powering the Suzuki Gixxer is the lightest 154.9cc motor, feed by a carburetor type fuel system. Using Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology, it delivers best-in-class power of 14.6bhp along with a peak torque of 14Nm. Looking after the effect of this new technology on the recently launched 110cc scooter- Let's, we can also expect a great mileage from the machine.

Yamaha FZ FI Ver. 2.0 houses the same 149cc engine, which powers the older generation. However, the company has used the new Blue-Core technology and fuel injection (EFI) system to achieve an optimum performance. Although, power and torque figures of the bike are almost similar at 12.9bhp and 12.8Nm respectively, fuel economy has been enhanced by 14 percent.

Powering the Honda CB Trigger is a 149.1cc mill, which churns out 14bhp of top power and torque output goes upto 12.5Nm. The bike claims to provide best in class mileage upto 60kmpl using the conventional carburetor type fuel system.

Gixxer and Trigger comes with both kick and self start option, while the FZ FI has only self start system.

Price:

Suzuki Gixxer has been priced aggressively with an on-road cost of Rs. 79,809 in Delhi, which is much lesser than the FZ FI and CBS variant of the Trigger. However, it is higher than the base and the DLX variants of the CB Trigger.

Yamaha FZ FI is the most expensive among all the three options, which is might be due to fuel injection system. The bike cost around Rs. 84,722 (on-road, Delhi).

Looking at the base variant price, Honda CB trigger looks the most affordable among these three bikes with an on-rod cost of Rs. 73,057 in Delhi, while the DLX and CBS variants cost Rs. 76,212 and 83,060 respectively in the similar city.
