BMW Motorrad introduces Dynamic Braking System

In its continuous efforts to make automobile safer and advance with each passing day, BMW Motorrad recently introduced Dynamic braking lights that operate in a complete different manner in comparison to the ordinary brake lights. The initiative by the German manufacturer will help the bikers stay safe at nights and in cases when vehicles don’t notice the rear end of the bike and get bump into them. BMW Motorrad introduced these braking lights under their safety program “Safety 360”.

The Dynamic Braking Lights work in two stages when the motorcycle brakes hard. In the first stage, when the motorcycle is slowing down from speeds over 50kmph, the brake light flashes with a frequency of 5 Hertz. With the flashing light, the vehicles following the bike surely gets the attention and hence it minimises the chances of a collision. Now in stage number two, the hazard blinkers on the bike gets turned on automatically once the bike reaches a speed of below 14kmph. Moreover, they keep on blinking till the rider accelerates and the bike crosses a minimum speed of 20kmph.

For now, the feature is kept for Europe only and once it tastes success, we can expect it to see in vehicles running on Indian roads too. BMW plans to bring this feature as standard in all its cars and motorcycles in 2016. BMW Motorrad recently teamed up with two other auto giants - Honda and Yamaha to enhance the level of rider safety. For this, the three signed up a formal agreement to a technology called Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS).
