The year 2016 will witness the return of 250cc, a two-stroke motorcycle race in Isle of Man TT. The schedule for the classic TT races has been introduced by Bennetts. Remained quite popular for many years, this 250cc motorcycle race was taken off in 2004 as the industry was more supportive to the four-stroke superbikes.

Some of the major TT stars such as McGuinness and Bruce Anstey originally made their names on 250cc machines. McGuiness won his first TT race in 1999 and made his Mountain Course Lap record of 118.29 on the 250cc machine. The Lightweight Classic TT race will be open to all 250cc Grand Prix motorcycles and will also allow bikes from Formula 2 Classic TT race, and will feature their own sub-class.

According to the Paul Phillips, TT and Motorsport Development Manager, Isle of Man Department of Economic Development and a big fan of this race “The timing is right to introduce a race for proper 250cc two-stroke Grand Prix racing motorcycles at the Classic TT. They are so popular with fans because of the unique sounds and smells they produce. We are confident that we will attract a quality line up of riders on board some first class machinery for this new addition to the Classic TT race programme.”
