Bajaj Discover 125 M Drum Overview
Bajaj Discover 125 was the bike that marked the beginning of the Discover line-up in 2004. Bestowed upon with some very unique and fascinating features, that were not seen in commuter bikes at that time, Discover 125 was a true revolution in commuter biking. Although, it faced a period of extinction for some time, in between, due to the immense popularity of its 135cc sibling, the charm of 125 was not one to lie low for long. In 2011, Bajaj Discover 125 made a grand come-back in the Indian market, packed with more attractive looks, more advanced technologies, better performance characteristics and much better efficiency. Bajaj has been famous for its innovative approach of bringing trend-changing reforms in its vehicles with every new release, whether it is a debut or a revamp. And the same has been seen with Bajaj Discover 125 DTS-i too.
Discover 125 was always a mind-blowing performer, never once giving a chance to its riders or its makers to feel disappointed with their ride. And now that it it houses the fabulous Bajaj-patented technologies of DTS-i and Exhaus TEC, the performance levels have only been boosted to even higher levels. Body graphics now adorn the entire frame of this motorcycle giving it a very modern and trendy feel. Meanwhile, the lean shape, which runs from the fuel-tank to the tail, imparts a very aerodynamic profile to the ride. Besides all this, the material and plastics quality for Discover is better than ever before which adds to the reliability and durability of the bike
Bajaj Discover 125 M Drum Designing
Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi measures 2030mm in length, 760mm in width and 1065mm in height, which gives the bike a wheelbase of 1305mm and a ground clearance of 165mm. Measuring 1305mm, this wheelbase serves to distribute the 118.5kg of kerb weight of the motorbike uniformly throughout the body, thereby making the ride easy to handle, especially on turns. Talking of turns, the upright sitting position, that is facilitated by the saddle height and positioning of the handlebars, makes cornering extremely easy for the driver. The starting mechanism of Discover 125 has a dual nature, consisting of kick-start as well as electric self-start, which makes it easy to start in every weather condition. The chassis of Discover 125 DTSi is highly inspired by the 150cc model of the group, while clear glimpses of the Pulsar range can be clearly caught in the cuts and curves of this ride. At the heart of this alluring structure, lies a 1475mm, maintenance-free, 12V DC battery which ensures that the flow of power to the 35W headlamp and to the LED taillamp never suffers from a disruption.
Bajaj Discover 125 Appearance
In appearance, Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi is better than any of its kind in the entire segment. Inspired by its scintillating Pulsar brothers, the body of this bike has a very distinct style. First and foremost, the all-black coat, which the bike dons, gives it a very sporty look and is something that is not seen on any of the other commuters in the country. The contours of the motorcycle, meanwhile, provide ample substance to it while the aerodynamic fairing helps in maintaining a lean and sleek profile, at the same time. For the front end, a set of multi-reflector headlamp with twin pilot lamps have been employed by Bajaj Auto, while the rear end gets a stylish LED cluster. As far as the comfort of the riders is concerned, the newly-designed seat with proper cushioning makes it a very fun ride for the driver as well as the pillion. And to add to the comforts of the pillion rider, grab-rails and footrest have also been incorporated. As for the driver, in particular, an intelligently-designed instrument panel, mounted on the handlebars, comes as a real treat. Composed of analog dials for the speedometer and fuel gauge coated in the same two-tone color that is flaunted by the rest of the bike body, this panel also features a tripmeter and an analogous odometer. And although, this display is very clear and easy to read, the absence of a tachometer is sorely missed.
Colors of Bajaj Discover 125 M Drum Engine & Performance
Under the hood, Bajaj Auto has employed a naturally air-cooled, 4-stroke, DTS-i engine with a displacement of 124.6cc to work for the Discover 125. This engine is capable of churning out a maximum of 10.85bhp at 8000rpm for a peak torque of 10.8Nm at 5500rpm. The Digital Twin Spark Ignition technology working with the mill provides a better fuel-economy without compromising on the power output of the motorbike, while the Exhaus TEC mechanism supplies a uniform torque at all revolution rates, however low or high they may be. Together, these two systems make sure that a quick start is received by the driver, the torque and power levels do not fall beyond the range of disappointment at any rev-rate and the mileage remains reasonably good at all times. In short, an all-round performance surety. In terms of pickup and speed, D125 can go from 0 – 60kmph within 6.25 seconds while the top mark in the speedometer features a figure of 100kmph. In terms of suspension, Discover 125 gets a telescopic 130mm fork travel set for the front end, while for the rear end, it receives a 110mm Nitrox gas filled mechanism. With this suspension system put to the job, the riders are far from experiencing any jerks or bumps on even the most badly laid roads of the country.
Bajaj Discover 125 Mileage
The mileage of Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi has been rated at an average of 68kmpl. Fitted with a fuel-tank of 8 litres, that accounts for a 544 km ride for a single fill, which is quite impressive.
Bajaj Discover 125 M Drum Braking & Handling
In braking, Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi comes with two options for the front wheel. With the rear wheel remaining fixed at 130mm Drum brakes, the front wheel can be chosen to have either 130mm Drum or 200mm Disc brakes by the buyer. And while Drum brakes are sufficient for a bike of this caliber, Disc brakes would, undoubtedly, take braking performance one notch higher. To assist in better braking, the company has also provided aluminium alloy die cast wheels fitted with 2.75 x 17 inch tyre at the front and 3.00 x 17 inch tyre at the rear end. These wide tyres help a lot in maintaining a stronger grip on the road, thereby cutting-down on the risk of skids. Coming to handling. The structure of Bajaj Discover 125 DTSi has been so designed that the 118.5kg of kerb weight gets uniformly spread across the entire structure, making it extremely light and easy to handle. Especially, during cornering, the upright sitting posture combined with this weight distribution, comes in really handy for the rider. In addition to all this, the impressive suspension system of D125 ensures that even the worst roads of the country do not spoil the fun ride of its riders.
Bajaj Discover 125 M Drum Safety Features
Bajaj manufacturers have never compromised with the safety of their customers. With every ride out of their factory, they have attached the best possible set of safety mechanisms, and the same goes for the Discover 125 DTSi as well. Being simple in design, although, this ride has not been excessively loaded with security fitments, but yet, some basic measures have been taken to make it as safe as possible. Fitted with Drum brakes as the standard feature, which themselves are very efficient, the makers of this bike provide the more secure option of Disc brakes also, exclusively for the front wheel. Talking about wheels, the rear wheel of Discover 125, now comes fitted with a thicker tyre, which supplies a better road-grip and hence, assists in a quicker braking while reducing the risk of skidding on wet roads. Plus, the 169mm headlamp of the motorcycle, connected to the 12V power supply, provides a bright and uniform illumination at all speeds, making night-time rides ever safer.
