Bajaj Discover 125 St Overview
Innovation has long been a part of the Bajaj tradition. Every time a new vehicle is rolled-out of that celebrated clan, it never fails to dazzle and astonish its admirers. Fascinating looks that always succeed in making a distinct style statement, state-of-the-art technologies making the whole system work, unbelievable fuel-economy that comes as nothing but a boon in the current scenario and prices that eliminate the whole question of any second thoughts – these are the traits that define a Bajaj motorbike. And Bajaj Discover 125 ST takes this very legacy forward. Making its debut in the year 2004, which also happens to be the launch of the Discover series in India, Bajaj Discover 125 has seen a lot of popularity and craze over the past years. A commuter at its best, Discover 125 has entered the markets many times, each of which had seen something new that has left the observers completely awestruck. With Discover 125 DTS-i getting launched in 2011, yet another version, called the Discover 125 ST, was launched earlier in 2012. One look at this latest model and you would have no doubts, whatsoever, that this is the best commuter of the date. Publicized as the “Commuter Sports Tourer”, D125 ST is the best ride of two-wheels that a daily commuter can ask for. Whether it is the outfit, the engine, the mileage or the comforts, this newbie scores high in every field.
Bajaj Discover 125 St Designing
The design of Bajaj Discover 125 ST has been made keeping in mind its basic nature of a commuter that needs to take on every kind of road each day and cover long distances at the same time. Built over a semi double cradle frame, this motorcycle offers a large wheelbase of 1305mm, along with a wide 170mm of clearance from ground to tackle the bumpy roads. Plus, the saddle height of 800mm and a properly placed handlebar allow the driver to assume quite a comfortable posture during long drives. As for the electrical system, it makes use of a DC Ignition technology and carries a 12V battery at its very heart. The instrument panel next to the handlebars also gets a very modern look. A large and round dial for the speedometer is placed next to the fuel gauge, while a trapezoidal strip running beside them shows all the indicating lights and the Bajaj logo. While this console looks very neat and is not at all cluttered, the lack of a tachometer is a big drawback in its design.
Colors of Bajaj Discover 125 St Engine & Performance
To run this pack of fascinating looks, Bajaj Auto has employed an air-cooled, 124.6cc, 4-valve, twin-spark engine which is quite similar to that of the Discover 125 DTSi, with a major difference being of the 4 valves. With power topping out at a beefy 12.82bhp at 9000rpm for a peak torque of 10.78Nm at 7000rpm, this 125cc bike holds the capacity of rivaling some of the 150cc rides in the country. A part of the credit for this amazingly enhanced performance goes to the corrugated engine fins, which improve heat-dissipation by 28% and raise the power levels straight away by 15%. Based on a carburetted system, the bike houses a CV type carburetor along with a 5-speed Constant mesh transmission system and a Digital Ignition system. The starting mechanism of D125 ST comprises of both self and kick start techniques, making it easy to start in any possible weather condition. For the riders' comfort, telescopic fork with anti-friction DU bush have been used for the front-end suspension while for the rear-end, Nitrox monoshock with gas canister forms the suspension system. This monoshock mechanism is another feature that has appeared for the first time on a 125cc motorbike. Besides all of this, a lot of work has been done on the NVH levels of this bike also, making it more suitable for long journeys, keeping it free from any unwanted noise or vibrations. Plus, the incorporation of a new paper filter improves the filtering quality, thereby promising a better fuel-economy.
Bajaj Discover 125 St Braking & Handling
200mm petal disc brakes work at the front wheel of the D125 ST while the rear wheel is under the control of 130mm Drum brakes. These work very well for the 125cc ride, but there is definitely a scope for improvement. What assists this mechanism in bringing about a shorter brake time is the set of tyres. The 10-spoke, alloy die cast wheels are fitted with 2.75 x 17 inch 41P tubed tyre in the front and 3.00 x 17 inch 50P tubed tyre in the rear end. It is very simple to handle a Discover 125 ST. With vibrations kept at a minimum, handling improves automatically. Plus, the larger cross section for the swingarm assists greatly in cornering. Besides that, the suspension system works seamlessly for keeping the ride as smooth and comfy as possible. The monoshock mechanism, in particular, goes a long way in making the bike feel as light as possible.
Bajaj Discover 125 St Safety Features
On the grounds of safety, Bajaj Discover 125 ST has a number of features to offer. Petal Disc brakes, in place of the regular Disc brakes, enhance the braking performance by providing a better brake cooling and cutting-down on the rate of brake fading. Plus, the thick tyres also assist in bringing the bike to a halt faster due to increased road grip. In addition to that, a constant power supply to the 35W headlamp ensures that even at low speeds, the light intensity does not dip, providing proper illumination at all times and hence, increasing safety levels.

Bajaj Discover 125 ST Review
-
- By Balaraj from Bangalore 2013-05-14It's a good bike or a bad bike depends on what your expectations are from your bike. If you are looking for power, 125 ST gives 13 BHP which is amazing for a 125cc bike. If you are looking for mileage, it gives you about 65 kmpl provided you are riding it between 40-45 kmph and not using up all the power it can generate. It gives about 50 kmpl if you ride it to generate the full power of 13 BHP. If your need is mileage and not power, you can think of other models from Hero & also save a good 10k. If your need is power and not bothered about the mileage, you can think of a far more technic...
